The well known statue in Yad Vashen was vandalized by antisemitical graffiti writing :"Thanks Hitler for the wonderful Holocaust, thats to it we got a country" signed "the Jewish international mafia". June 11 2012. Photo by Uri Lenz/Flash90Jerusalem - Police believe that the anti-Semitic and anti-Israel graffiti attack on Yad Vashem Holocaust museum was perpetrated by haredi (ultra-Orthodox) extremists, Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben Ruby said Sunday. One of the graffiti slogans read “Haredi World Committee,” Ruby said.

“We are checking in other directions, but right now, we believe that [the attack] was carried out by extremists,” he added.

There were more than ten graffiti slogans spray-painted in black, concentrated an the Warsaw Ghetto Square and the memorial to the deportees next to the cattle car.

One slogan read “Thanks Hitler for the wonderful Holocaust you organized for us! Only because of you we received a state,” while another said, “Jews, wake up, the evil regime does not protect us, it only endangers us.”

“There will be an alternative museum to Yad Vashem - the selection,” “The Zionist leaders wanted the Holocaust” and “The war of the Zionist regime is not the war of the Jewish people” was also scrawled at the site.

The assault on the museum “crossed a red line,” Yad Vashem chairman Avner Shalev said Monday.

“We know that the Yad Vashem memorial is a link between Israeli society and Judaism,” Shalev stated. “All of the messages written here are aimed at disrupting this connection.”

Shalev said more than one type of handwriting appeared in the graffiti and expressed the belief that more than one person could have perpetrated the crime. He added that it seemed as though the vandals entered through one of the back entrances to the 45-acre museum, which is located in the midst of the Jerusalem forest. There are many entrances to the museum through hiking trails.

Shalev said that Yad Vashem had transferred the security video from the area to the police.

Jerusalem Police Chief Nisso Shaham called the incident “shocking” and said “We must investigate and deal quickly with these despicable acts… in which one of Israel’s important symbols was attacked.”

Also reacting to the incident, Education Minister Gideon Sa’ar said that the vandals desecrated the museum with the intention of offending public sensibilities.

Sa’ar said that he was shocked by the act of vandalism and by the content of the the graffiti, adding that he trusted that the Israel Police would know how to track down the criminals and bring them to justice.

Matityahu Droblas, survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto, former MK and currently a board member at Yad Vashem also reacted to the incident. “The Warsaw Ghetto is a symbol of the Jewish people,” he said. “There are now 200,000 Holocaust survivors left in Israel. This [attack] was not just against survivors, it was against the entire Jewish people and the entire Jewish state.”

“I want to believe that it wasn’t a Jew,” he added.

In a separate incident overnight Sunday, seven cars belonging to Arab residents of the Shuafat refugee camp in east Jerusalem were vandalized in an apparent “price tag” attack. The vandals spray-painted “Ulpana” on one of the cars and punctured the tires of seven.

while I hope it was not Jews who did this, it is possible. If one hears that the Zionist caused the holocaust or it was because of the secular Jews not being religious. )we all known who said that). In addition they only read ben hecth book perfidy, and see their community members screaming at the police Nazis, and of course that sick protest dressed in concentration camp prisoners.

why would they think any differently, they do not and can not know from other perspective or that most Jews and thinking humans think such talk in nonsense

While graffiti itself on someone else's property is a crime, the headline is somewhat misleading, they did not say "thank you hitler...." As an appreciation to the holocaust,, they cynically said "One slogan read “Thanks Hitler for the wonderful Holocaust you organized for us! Only because of you we received a state,”, the message is totally different, its completely not the same!

Sounds like extremists are at fault. But if the Gedolim don't come out in force to against these actions, it's the fault of the Gedolim as well. If they keep silent the rest of the Jewish community will see their silence as agreement to this Chillul Hashem.

I wonder if the "police" realize that no matter how extreme an orthodox Jew is, they don't agree with the Holocaust. There are some that deny, but I have yet to find someone pro it. The "police" obviously can't realize, that someone is trying to set the orthodox jews, and put them in a bad light. My opinion is, is that it's an anti-Hareidi person, who while doesn't agree with what he wrote, still hates the Hareidim enough to spew stupidity. The only one who would single out, and write "Haredi World Committee", would unfortunately be a Jew.

What nonsense! Rabbonim now have to formally denounce graffiti?!? Should we get them to issue Kol Korehs against people who drive too fast or speak with their mouths full too?

Just who are you advising to "come out and speak"? There are some really big rabbonim in eretz Yisrael, and if they don't feel the need to speak out, who are you to tell them to do so. Isn't "imposing ok others" a big no no in liberal thought? How would you like it if someone else gave you orders what to say?

It sounds like a message of protest against the fact that the Zionists used the Holocaust as a pretext to gain a state.

There is nothing anti-Semitic in that message, although it is certainly anti-Zionist, and probably anti-Israel.

I think you missed the point.

The extremists who wrote this are saying that the rest of Israel (the Zionists), are secretly thankful for the Holocaust because it allowed them to get the current, secular state.

This is VERY consistent with SOME people in extremist societies.

However, I wish people would stop calling them "chareidi". These people may look like and dress like us, but they are terrorists, thugs, vandals and arsonists. The same way we expect every other group around the world to denounce their extremists, WE should be the first to do it.

Normal chareidi Yidden must be willing to go to the press and state, unequivocally, these factions are CULTS and excommunicated from the rest of chareidi society. Zero tolerance for animalistic behavior.

Why not? They issue "kol korehs" about strawberries, bicycles, stockings and cameras. I'm sure they have a few minutes in their schedules to tell some of their overzealous followers that vandalism and destruction of property is not ok.

Suffice to say, Hashem is very real and anyone who might deter from the plan that the Jewish Nation ultimately returns to Israel the holy land might be in direct opposition of our G-d. I am quite sure that G-d did not need a message in graffiti painted on one of the most solemn places in the human world from all times.
If any criminal thinks that he has acheived something in this display, let him look foward to the most heinous future either on this planet or in the world that follows.

I am at a loss to think that any jew could think or make any such statement with of all things Hebrew in an occasion that counters the very direct human suffering and terror and hatred that was experienced by his own ancestors and people at the hands of the greatest criminals in human existence.

G-d is not in my thoughts going to tolerate or excuse this behavior in any case and there is much at stake for the "zealot" who wants to denigrate the memory of 6 million just becasue today there is a positive experience for a jewish soul in the land of his ancestors.

Rabbonim sure raise the voice regarding every other nonsens, and I will not cite all the unimportant issues. This garbage says thank you to Hitler for gassing and burning my parents , keeping me in concentration camp for 4 years, killing my family and cousins, friends and I watching in the ghetto lodz for one week the transports packed with Jews , yes Jews escorted by SS Einsatzgruppen brought out on trucks for Treblinka. Maybe the Rabbonim should mind their business about the internet, tznius, and every easy target but are too coward to tackle the miserable chareidi chayes

No, he is not a goy. He is a yid who, unlike you, can comprehend what he reads. He understood that this was a protest against the zionists using the Churban for their political gain. Agree with this protest or not (I think it's worse than wrong, it's stupid), it is difficult to overlook the fact that Nobody#15 understood the article when he read it and you did not.

Just as a parent or teacher cannot react every time a child misbehaves, so too the Rabbis cannot react. And who decided the "haredi" did this? They get blamed at every opportunity. It's a shame how the "secular" jews show such hatred to yiddishkeit. It's starting to look like we have more jewish enemies than goyim!
