Train service to and from the World Trade Center station was shut down for over three hours Thursday because of Obama’s visit to the trade center.

Host John Gambling mentioned the shutdown during Bloomberg’s weekly radio show on WOR Friday.

Gambling said the Secret Service wanted the trains halted. Bloomberg responded, “Well, you don’t have to say yes. This is our city.”

Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman said that when dealing with the safety of the president and the first lady, the agency follows the recommendations of the Secret Service and its own police department. He said that’s “not negotiable” and “just common sense.”

The king, B. Hussein Obama, can do whatever he wants to. Everyone must accede to his wishes.

I oppose stopping traffic for politicians and other celebrities. If they aren’t willing to face the same traffic jams, commuting delays, crime risks, etc. that the rest of us have to face, then they should just stay home.

Bloomberg may not mind shutting down the train or any other part of the city as long as the secret service pays for it and with added bonus payment of a premium to compensate NY for the headache and not only expenses and lost revenue.

But as for us New Yorkers, we should say no unless the secret service is willing to compensate, not only the government body of the city, but also to compensate each and every new Yorker personally for the inconvenience and for lost time form work of each individual citizen plus much more.

Guys: this is not usually a presidential decision. The Secret Service is responsible for his safety and they err on the side of caution. In the future, I hope that the President gets briefed on the implications of shutting down mass transit and says “enough…don’t go crazy.” I don’t know why they closed the PATH but it probably isn’t something the Secret Service did for fun.
As for Bezalel (#2) recommending that they just stay home:it won’t happen. It is impossible for multiple reasons to not have political leaders visit. It’s not a matter of them being willing to face traffic jams, it is the security people putting their protectee at risk. Assassinations are a risk and having the President sitting motionless in NYC traffic would just invite security problems. There’s simply no good answer.

That is not all the damage he did. Over 60 planes could not take off from JFK between the hour of 3:30 & 5:30 because “Bozo The Clowns” Air force 1 was sitting at the airport. He is a one man demolition crew. Send him back to Kenya and let him go look for his birth certificate.

Why did the Secret Service stop with the PATH trains. Why didn’t it also order that the New York City subways system, which passes in close proximity to Ground Zero, to also halt operations; also, the bus operations which are in that area, as well as all taxi service in lower Manhattan, should also have been halted. The Secret Service should be apprised of their shortcomings, in overlooking the above!

Living in NY comes with a price – elected officials come to visit. It brings in revenue, but it also costs. If you don’t like this, you can live in a small town in Nebraska and you will NEVER have to worry about traffic or the President coming to visit.

This is routine whenever the President comes to a big city. It’s been that way for decades because of the exceptional security requirements. If he didn’t shriek and moan and stamp his precious little feet when the same thing was done for President Bush, Bloomberg has no right to do it when President Obama is in town.
