Ankara, Turkey – Report: Syria May Have Mistaken Turkish Jet For Israeli Military

    11

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan stands by the cockpit of a Hurkus (Freebird), Turkey's first locally produced military training plane, a two-seat turboprop plane, unveiled during a ceremony outside Ankara, Turkey, 27 June 2012. The plane is expected to be ready to fly within a year and will also be shown to the audience at the Farnborough International Air Show. EPA/CEMAnkara, Turkey – A Syrian minister is quoted as saying his country’s forces may have mistaken the Turkish plane they shot down for an Israeli one.

Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zoebi was quoted as telling Turkish news channel A Haber in a telephone interview Wednesday that his country did “not want a crisis between Turkey and Syria.”

Al-Zoebi said Turkish and Israeli fighter jets were mostly U.S.-made, which may have led the Syrian forces to mistake it for an Israeli jet.

Turkey warned Syria on Tuesday to keep its troops away from the countries’ troubled border or risk an armed response, an angry reply to the downing of the Turkish reconnaissance plane last week.

    Yea, good excuse.
If it were an IAF overflight, the Syrians would’ve never even known about it.

If it had been an Israeli plane the ground troops manning the ground to air missiles would not be around to be able to explain their scrambled thoughts and at best could only leave as clues scrambled body parts. Remember next time Syrian geniuses – if you’re shooting at it, it’s not Israeli.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Turkey disguised one of their planes as an Israeli plane in order to start a war

The Turkish jet was. A Vietnam-era F-4 Phantom. Israel hasn’t flown Phantoms in 20 years or more.

Turkeys can’t fly which would explain why the Syrians mistook it for an Israeli plane.
