The case has drawn comparisons to the fatal shooting of Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

Twenty-four-year-old Eliyahu Werdesheim (eh-LEE’-ya-hoo wehr-dee-SHY’-ihm) was sentenced Wednesday on second-degree assault and false imprisonment charges to a three-year suspended sentence and three years probation. He was acquitted of a deadly weapon charge. His brother, 22-year-old Avi Werdesheim, was acquitted of all three counts.

The older Werdesheim was also ordered to perform community service and write essays for the court about different neighborhoods in Baltimore.

The teen told police that Eliyahu Werdesheim shouted “You don’t belong here” and later struck him in the head. Eliyahu Werdesheim testified he acted in self-defense.

Yeah!! There should have been no charges brought since the kid wanted to drop the charges to begin with.

well, at least that Judge proved she was a human being. He probably did not deserve even that much.

BH he got No prison time…now after comparing this case to the well known George Zimmerman case I hope Mr Zimmerman will get no prison time either.

It’s great there is no jail time, but a 3 year suspended sentence is too much.

If Eliyahu Werdesheim volunteers for Shomrim.is that considered community service?

No jail time is a good news. I hope Eliyahu will put it all behind him soon (easier said than done). His conviction is very unfair: prosecution’s case fell apart, to the extent that the hoodlum who was presented as a “victim” vociferously demanded to drop charges. True, Eliyahu will not be imprisoned, but he will carry a criminal record, not to mention the nuisance of “community service” and the humiliation of having to submit essays “for the court.” This trial happened shortly after the non-arrest and subsequent arrest of Mr. Zimmerman in Florida; the Baltimore judge (needless to say a woman and a Democrat) was scared that blacks will turn even more violent than usual in Baltimore and decided to convict. I wish Eliyahu the best. I still hope there is a possibility of the fair trial for Mr. Zimmerman. But I am not optimistic.
