Union spokesman John Melia says negotiations between the power company and Local 1-2 of the Utility Workers of America have been ongoing for 10 days.
Con Ed spokesman Bob McGee says there are a wide range of issues being discussed but he couldn’t offer specific details.
McGee says Con Ed is hopeful an agreement can be reached before midnight. He says the company plans to call in managers to run the utility if there is a work stoppage.
The union represents about 8,500 workers.
The talks are occurring as New York braces for more hot weather. Many parts of the Northeast are under heat advisories or excessive heat warnings.
I hope they settle so that the worker’s don’t sabatoge the electrical grids!
Disgusting! I would like to see a study on how union workers and especially con ed union workers compare to the private non unionized sector. that should include, wages, working conditions, hrs, and above all, productivity!
I’m sick of seeing blackouts with their red truck sitting out there with 2 people reading a newspaper or sleeping. Please cut the crap, they deserve a pink slip imho!
