According to Schneiderman, New York law forbids those selling essentials — like food, water, gas, generators, batteries, flashlights, cleanup and disposal services — from charging excessive prices during abnormal market disruption.
He says consumers who believe they are victims of price gouging should contact the agency’s consumer helpline at 1-800-771-7755 or find the complaint form online at http://www.ag.ny.gov .
They are also advised to consult insurers, check contractor references and licenses and get written repair estimates.
…And the state wonders why people aren’t rushing to our state with supplies? Price-gouging laws make it unprofitable for those willing to go out of their way, to come and sell their supplies. There would be plenty more gas to go around, if the companies from out-of-state were allowed to charge a price that would make it worth it for them to lug the gas all the way to NY. No one is gonna go out of their way to lose money, hence the massive gas shortage all around.
Someone told me he was charged $500.00 an hour to have his basement in Seagate pumped out. This was a heimishe sewer cleaner and he took advantage of this terrible time of need. Of course we can not be a MOOSER and call attorney generals office but he should be ashamed for doing this….
