The official says Director of Emergency Management Steven Kuhr was let go after the governor was told Kuhr called a Suffolk County crew to remove a felled tree from his driveway on Long Island.

Kuhr was working in Albany at the time last week, shortly after Sandy hit.

The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the personnel decision wasn’t announced. The New York Times first reported the action.

Kuhr was paid $153,000 as executive deputy commissioner of the state Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.

A phone number listed in Kuhr’s name was not working Wednesday night.

What’s the shock about this? It would surprise anyone that an official would take care of his own first? Do think that the President of LIPA was without power for as long as the people in Far Rockaway? Do you think that the head of the union wasn’t first among equals? The shock is to Cuomo that it was found out and he had to fire the guy, first of many shocks coming, I fear.

Good start. Now why is the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel not open yet? Why is NJ overflowing with gasoline but we still have long lines and no gas? What has been done for the communities devasted by Sandy?

It’s time for you to admit failure and resign immediately.

Cuomo did not do a good job in the aftermath of Sandy either. Christy got his state plenty of help, gas, and vital resources. Cumo has abandoned LI, Rockland County, and Rockaways etc. They are on their own. They have no food, shelter, electricity, or gas. NY is in chaos with no gas and a lack of vital resources. Why couldn’t Cuomo get us gas and electricity and provide fair distribution of vital resources? Why isn’t anyone criticising Cuomo? He is the cheif executive of NY and blame ultimately starts with him. He has failed us and he has performed very poorly in helping the citizens of this state. Why hasn’t pressure been placed on him to produce results? There is no reason for the long gas lines or the lack of electricity and other vital services. Where is the governor?

Cuomo was elected without opposition. he is going to be reelected without opposition. A one party state is always going to be run this way. Wake up and vote Republican. You will lose a couple of dollars in food stamps, but the quality of life will make up for it. Christie always has to worry about a Democrat catching him off guard and fighting him in the next election. Cuomo does not have that pressure so he does NOTHING.

Why are there some many people whining on this site?Government cannot respond to take care of every problem, as quickly as people would like. When large sections of London was bombed, and destroyed during WW2, and thousands of civilians were killed, did the British civilians keep whining to their government, to repair the damaged buildings, and restore utility power? Please!

The difference between NJ & NY is simple.
NJ eagerly accepted help from the federal government.
NY won’t accept fed help because of pressure from NYPD, FDNY etc . They want the overtime money. They don’t care if people die while they take their time, at time and a half.
the national gaurd, army corps of engineers and especally the seabees could have this under control quickly for a fraction of the cost.
    this situation is disgusting.

Perhaps his car was being blocked and he needed it when he got back. So what he had his driveway unblocked. State officials should get some perks, it’s not like they are really earning a tremendous amount of money. Most state officials could do much better financially in the private sector
