Williamsburg, NY – Man Who Molested Boy In Mikva Gets Five Years

    26

Brooklyn, NY – A 29 year-old man who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing an ultra-Orthodox boy five years ago at the age of 12, was sentenced to five years in prison this afternoon, but not before hearing an “unforgiving” letter written by his victim, now 17.

The NEW YORK DAILY NEWS (http://nydn.us/10t3dog) is reporting that Meir Dascalowitz received the sentence as part of a plea agreement aimed at sparing the victim from having to face his abuser again while testifying.

In his letter, read before sentencing, the 17 year-old victim said Dascalowitz has “ruined my life,” and that “I never will forgive you.”

The 17 year-old also said he has been “kicked out of school” and “lost friends” in the fallout of reporting the crime to authorities.

Advocates from the Hasidic community said they are “satisfied” with the outcome since the boy did not have to testify.

The boy’s mother, however, was not satisfied with the five year sentence and the prospect that Dascalowitz could be out in less than that.

“How many children’s life will be ruined?” she asked.

‘Kicked out of school and lost friends’, punish the victim as if he hasn’t suffered enough.

The perpetrator gets 5 years and the victim gets a life sentence – business as usual for cases like this.

How holy an true this Torah life can be if communities learn from it to punish 17 year old kid for standing up to his rapist that damaged him mentally for life? The community is worse than the rapist because they reduce themselves to the same disgusting level.

And now let’s wait for all the chasidim to start their BS about mesirah. Any one of you that believes that this was mersira needs to get some serious psychiatric help. Hope he gets a taste of his own medicine while he’s locked up.

There will be no end to this until the entire community faces up to it’s responsibility to protect the most at risk, our children. One of the great secrets that we have kept to ourselves is the child abuse, spousal abuse, and drug and alcohol abuse in the frum community. By osmosis we get from the world around us, but by trying to sweep it under the rug we are making it worse. There is a woman in my community who when she comes to shul on shabbos and it is obvious to all who look at her that she is not just “falling down steps.” Go hide behind mesirah.

” The victim’s father, has said his family was exiled from his Orthodox community for reporting the abuse to outside authorities.” This quote is from one of the English newspapers. Imagine the families pain, but many in our community call it mesirah. Do they have another or a better way of dealing with these low lifes? They just sweep it under the rug and do nothing. Our Rabbonim should speak out with a loud and clear voice but they’re chicken. They hide behind the Torah and call it mesirah. A bunch of nonsense. Don’t use our HOLY TORAH for an excuse for your stupidity. For shame, for shame!

“The 17 year-old also said he has been “kicked out of school” and “lost friends” in the fallout of reporting the crime to authorities.”

As usual, the victim is persecuted by the community and the molester will get a send off dinner replete with financial support for his family. How can anyone justify the “community’s” treatment of this boy? Does anyone else see how perverse this has all become?

    Luke.

“Its Never Too Late To Change For The Better!” Children need a place where they can complain if someone is running after them and know that their voice will be heard. Instead of trowing them out of school we should focus on how we can help the children.

Entirely too many crimes are being committed against innocent young people in the community and then concealed to the greatest extent possible. Even the DA can’t hide them all. Nobody has the right to present themselves as any kind of religious or moral authority if they are aware of these outrages against other human beings and yet do nothing to intervene and bring this to an end. Mesirah is a feeble attempt to excuse criminality.

this evil has been going on for too long. Too many lives have been destroyed. We have demanded that the authorities stop sweeping this under the carpet . No more shtile height . The rabbinic leadership is being put on the hot seat. Their actions are viewed as part of the problem not part of the solution
What has also changed since another heinous crime occured about a year ago , is that now unllike a year ago, the readers of VIN almost unanimously condem both this act together with the cruel response by the community and their rabbis.
This change is also long overdue. and shows some promise . Not sure why it took so long . The secular/ non jewish community without the benifit of learned rabbis figured it out long ago . sometimes there is truth to chochmo bagoyim. What a horriffic tragedy. Hashem Yirachem
May we never need our new found common sense.

How many children have to go off the Derech and suffer the rest of their lives, cause of these lowlifes. We now know all the children off the derech have been traumatized one way or another. Hashem Yishmor!
Maybe this way Klal yisroel can survive!! This is not Mesirah at all! This is PEKUACH NEUFESH!!!
