FileNew York – Distrust, apprehension, and in some cases, “confusion” are the terms being used by victims and witnesses associated with the ongoing sexual abuse investigation being conducted by a law firm hired by Yeshiva U.

The JEWISH DAILY FORWARD (http://bit.ly/12wwhNb) is reporting that the probe, which is being conducted by the law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell, is progressing at a glacial pace, with seemingly no end in sight after four months.

Of those who have been contacted, some have flat-out refused to cooperate, citing a “distrust” of Yeshiva U’s “motives” as a reason, while others who have been interviewed say they have come away “apprehensive” about the line of questioning by investigators, and that some questions seem to be designed more towards extracting information that would be beneficial in a defense by Y. U. against a civil suit.

In one case, lead investigator Lisa Friel told a former student that she has “no control” over what Yeshiva U. does with the information gathered.

Adding further “confusion” to the matter is the fact that many of the former students and staffers who were quoted in the FORWARD’s series on the scandal last year say they still have not even been contacted by investigators.

Amid calls from alumni that the results of the investigation be made public, Y.U. officials remain noncommittal.

I get sick every time I see the word “Yeshiva” next to the word “University”.

A Yeshiva cannot be a University.
A University cannot be a Yeshiva.

    It’s that simple.

Glacial speed sounds just about right when you hire a law firm that gets paid by the hour. Seriously? What’s their incentive to wrap things up?

Every institution tries to protect itself. To heck with the innocent victims. Do what you can to squash those who threaten your institution (and hence your job).

I hate to say this, but I am very distrustful of YU in general, although much of my community is a YU community. I think they are a “good old boys” club, and many, although not all, of the people who are in top and very visible positions look out for each other without being truthful. They are very concerned with how things look rather than how they really are. I suppose they’re not really too different from much of the Orthodox world in general, but they have proven to be a very disappointing institution as far as I’m concerned.
