Brooklyn, NY – A few Thousand Hasidim packed Thursday night Gravesend Park on 18th Ave and 57 St. in Brooklyn, NY, for a rally against the perceived dangers of the Internet. A Similar rally was also held tonight in Rockland County, NY at Provident Bank Park. and also in Lakewood, NJ

Attendees say the event is a follow-up to a similar gathering held at Citi Field and Arthur Ashe Stadium last May, where more than 50,000 Orthodox men remained in the seats past midnight to listen to speeches from Rabbis who decried the dangerous of the internet.

sad how much money gets spent on accomplishing nothing. thousands of chassidim are gathered to hear yiddish crying speeches when they arent even the ones ‘supposedly’ on the internet that much anyway. I bet half the crowd has an iphone or galaxy, they know what needs to be done to filter it, and if they havent by now then why are they even at the gathering. i guess the litvish/sephardic/lubavitch communities arent successful in filling up such large spaces so it looks like a failure so they gave up on us

I am a Chossid and I have the internet!
The problem is that many Chassidim, even in Satmar or other mouvements, have the internet at home or New Generation Mobile Phones with the Internet, but hide it from the Rabbis and Community! Hypocracy at its best!
To withhold information from the people is a way to manipulate and controle them!
Ignorance, caused due to a lack of education, is dangerous and is the reason why many crimes within the communities are ignored or shuffed under the table by the Rabbis, who are supposed to be the ones leading by example!
They should spend their money on more important things, instead of wasting time and money for rallays that will make no difference at all!
Hold a rallay against pedophiles, women abuse or similar in the community to make people aware of its dangers, instead of this!

So many serious issues in klal Yisrael – agunos, abuse of children, unemployment, outrageous yeshiva tuition, functional illiteracy, lack of job skills, the disproportionate financial burden borne by the g’virim – and THIS is the rallying point? I know! Let’s go learn from the Amish how to live. Oh – I forgot. They have that practice of Rumspringa. Oh well. I’m sure it was a nice asifa.
What was the point of posting this on VIN if we need the Internet to see it?
When is the rally in Albany & Washington DC to let us deduct our Yeshiva tuition? The only way to encourage our community to be stricter is if our affluence is increased – with dignity comes dignified behaviour. Poverty breeds apathy.
I think they want to ban the internet so that victims of abuse cannot go online and learn what to do and that there are many others in their shoes. I know several abused teenagers who are connecting with each other and discussing options and comparing notes of their abusers. Hopefully, the victims will have enough courage as a group to come forward to the police. Unfortunately, the victims are not allowed to have computers or cell phones so they need to visit friends’ houses and “sneak” a google search.

Why do you post the comments of such stupid, narish and thoughtless people. Obviously, those who don’t have any issue with the Internet, are already entrapped and addicted. They are blinded it’s dangers. They are lost to Klal Yisroel. Nebech. The only eitza for them is to DO TESHUVAH. (And then get a good filter.)
Reading through all the above comments, really pains me. If this gathering would have been for any materialistic cause, for instance a sports event etc. you would all commend it, saying “what a Kidush Hashem”. But just because it’s a gathering of spiritual cleansing, you’re all up in arms against it, with those typical silly claims “don’t we have bigger problems in our community?” Who of you want to deny that “every” human being is tempted to shmutz. That’s human nature! And when you take away the busha as is the case by the internet then you all fall through unless of course you filtered it. Now don’t answer me that you ought to have self control. It’s like going in to a dance club not to look in order to strengthen your self control.
The asifa was a beautiful gathering yesterday thousands upon thousands of people came together for 1 simple reason to keep strong of all the big nisyoines we have in front of us……there is no way we can fight it and say NO to the internet,unfortantly we need it..BUT in the same time there is NO way a person can say i wont filter my internet,i dont need it,its not important,the rabunim do not know what they are saying,they are not in touch,etc etc…..WE ARE ALL HUMAN…….and every person has nisyoines and a yeitzer hora and there is no way we can out smart him…therefore in my opinion it was a big kidush hashem and it sure served its purpose!!!! And to all other comments and there is other issues to address,,true there is other important things to address BUT REMEMBER ONE DOESNT HAVE TO DO WITH THE OTHER……and btw i also think that most of the people the common all those posts just feel guilty for not having a filter so they feel better with themselves by laughing of it

We had a HUGE Asifa last year. That was supposed to change it all. At this point can’t the “Gedolim” send out a memo to all the Rabanim to follow up with their mispallelim about this issue and include it with the other very pressing issues that face our communities.
Well since I found my wonderful shomer Shabbos, kosher husband on a Jewish dating site, I have no problems with the internet. It’s like fire, properly used it provides heat and light, abused it destroys. I have enough sense to avoid what is inappropriate. People who have problems with the internet should not use it but have no right to curtail other people’s access.
Did any of the Rabbis suggest Making Aliya and using the world class Kosher Filters available with ALL internet providers ???
