Jerusalem – In an unexpected turn today against charges that it deceived the public in its treatment of animals during slaughter, Israeli food giant Tnuva Food Industries admitted to causing great “suffering” to animals, calling it an unavoidable part of a process that is, by nature, brutal.

HAARETZ (http://bit.ly/1638g8b) is reporting that Tnuva Foods was in court responding to the two requests to file class action suits against the company on the heels of an investigative report aired on Israeli television that showed “disturbing” images from their slaughterhouse.
Debate by the court was slated to begin Monday on whether or not to allow the cases to go forward.
The bulk of the television report was created by an animal rights activist/journalist who went undercover to work at the slaughterhouse for two months.
Both applications state that Tnuva Foods profited by “deceiving” consumers who would not have bought their products had they known animals were being subjected to “suffering.”
You mean they have to kill animals to get their meat?! Oh the horror!
צער בעלי חיים דאורייתא.
Wow, someone who does something wrong and just admits it. Wonderful! Deserves a mention in the Guiness Book of World Records. Shkoyach!
They are FOOLISH for admitting ANYTHING. The leftist animal “rights” wackos don’t understand and don’t want to understand that shchita is by nature gory. By ‘admitting’ anything to these kooks only furthered their advance on the Torah and halocha.
The brutality they acknowledge would never happen in schlachthois that subscribes to the hechsher tzedek animal cruelty guidelines. The torah mandates humane treatment of all of the Ebeshter’s creations. A good chassideshe shochet will assure the animal is dispatched humanely but he cannot control what happens before the animal reaches him. He has to rely on the integrity of the owners/operators of the schlachthois.
The issue is not the actual shechitah. The issue is the inhumane and cruel manner in which the animal is treated leading up to the shechitah. The actual shechital if done properly renders the animal dead very quickly and if done in the most humane setting (per suggestion of Temple Grandin) the animal will barely know whats happening. The way many frum Jews treat animals is deplorable and is a sad statement about their personalities and it often carries over to the way they treat people; especially those who are different in any way even including the type of shreimel they wear.
As president of Jewish Vegetarians of North America (JVNA), I hope that the admission by Tnuva that, “slaughtering by its very nature causes the animals great suffering,” and their implied admission that meat production does not conform to people’s inherent concern for animal welfare will lead to a discussion of the many moral issues related to animal-based diets. In addition to the horrible treatment of animals on factory farms, the production and consumption of meat and other animal products contribute significantly to many diseases and to climate change and other environmental threats and is very wasteful of grain, water and energy.
