Brooklyn, NY – Based on a survey of Boro Park and Midwood which revealed that hundreds of new parking spots will become available once the city removes its old outdated coin-operated meters, the DOT has agreed to remove the old meters as soon as possible.

According to local officials, the continued presence of the old meters still confused motorists by giving the “appearance” of designated parking spaces.
Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) said he spoke to Brooklyn Borough Commissioner of NYC’s Department of Transportation Joseph Palmeri on Tuesday, and said he is “grateful” that Palmeri consented to address the issue “so quickly.”
Hikind said residents will benefit from “much needed” additional parking, while the city will see additional revenue.
I heard that all the old meters would remain and be modified to serve as bike racks.
I don’t understand. does that mean you’re removing meter rules or just removing the old meters? Removing the old meters why will that add more parking in the area?
yes we can pile them up in front Bloomie the Dictators Home.
The only good thing about the meters is, each parking spot is measured . Take them away , & you will have people who don’t know how to park , & those who just don’t care taking up more than 1 spot.
This allows cars to determine the space they need.small cars end up using less space. It also makes it easier for prperty owners to build illegal driveways since there will be no meter denoting a legal spot.
there should be some way of marking parking spaces or someone just parks in middle of two spaces just like on residential streets when someone parks 7-8 feet from a driveway or from the space in front of a hydrant killing two spaces.
Remember the 2 haimish yingermen in WBerg that moved the no parking sign …
maybe the city could get them to do this job?
Now we need to shorten the space allotted for bus stops. Without compromise to safety, most stops in BP are almost a half a block and need to be shortened. There is zero justification for leaving this situation as is.
They will just fill the space (if there is any left) with bike rental stands – as they have done in Manhattan…
Thank G-D I live in a city that has very few meters. Only downtown and it cost a quarter for an hour.
