A U.S. Bureau of Prisons spokesman says Kerik left the Cumberland facility in western Maryland on Tuesday.

He pleaded guilty to false statement and other charges. They stemmed from allegations that, while a city official, he knowingly paid on only $30,000 for renovations worth between $165,000 and $255,000.

Kerik has about five months left on his four-year sentence.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether he’d serve out the time in home confinement or a halfway house. The Daily News of New York reported he went to his Franklin Lakes, N.J., home.

Kerik had to testify in a perjury trial related to the allegations late last year.

Kerik, although a decorated cop, and an NYCPD Commissioner, was the first and only commissioner in the history of the NYCPD to be convicted of felonies, and sentenced to jail. A shanda, which he brought on himself!

So foolish. He was a good man who was taken over by greed. In the end, integrity & honesty are all that matters. He has only himself to blame.

I guess that means he is now qualified to be a politician.

Give the guy a break, he served his time. All politicians have done what he did and continue to do these kind of low level crimes and continue to get away with it.

Rediculous that a good man is treated like that because he got favours in the position he’s in. At most he should receive a fine not a 4 year sentence. This is akin to a death sentence.

To the fellow commentators on this board- Some of you have taken the position that “Well, everybody, especially politicians, have done what he did, so why make a big deal out of it”. Or, “he shouldn’t have received such a stiff sentence, only a fine”. The logic seems to be akin to “well, everybody goes over the speed limit, so why should I have received a speeding ticket”, or “everybody cheats a little on their taxes, so why is the Government making such a big deal out of it”. The fact of the matter is that Kerik, although an outstanding and decorated cop, was a corrupt individual. He was indicted, arrested, prosecuted, and sentenced. Yes, I felt sorry for his family, but he brought his misfortune onto himself. I wish him well in his future endeavors.
