More than 30,000 marchers and 17 bands walked Sunday with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the city’s mayoral candidates — including City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and former congressman Anthony Weiner.
This year’s theme was “Picture Israel,” with marchers carrying paintings, collages, and tapestries to show the diversity of Israel and its people.
In the evening, the Empire State Building will beam the Israeli colors to celebrate the 1948 creation of the Jewish state.
Also later Sunday, Israel’s national soccer team is scheduled to play the team from Honduras in Queens.
Security was tight along Fifth Avenue. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly watched over the lineup and helicopters hovered overhead.

Beautiful, beautiful!
The Eruv Rav – I mean Neturei Karta – was there too, waving Palestinian flags and chumming it up with other Israel haters.
Warms the cockles of one’s heart. Now how will these pics or the parade, for that matter, help Israel defend against her enemies that plan and plot her demise every second of every day? Just wondering.
Thats a nice day. Wish there were more men with tzitzits!!!!!!!
Didn’t know we had so many mayoral candidates…
yasher koach to all the hard working hatzalah members.
The people that marched in the parade and the people who watched the parade are the “Jewish People” They are the ones that went to fight in Israel and support Israel
They are the ones that are “the Jewish People” Three cheers for them
The draft dodgers should take a look at themselves
A beautiful day for a beautiful parade. What a Kiddush HaShem. Obviously, HaShem was looking down and smiling. We live in an incredible time. Our beautiful children from all of the day schools in the region were able to be part in such an incredible tribute to Israel. We need to keep it up and continue to serve HaShem and he will continue to bless us.
This parade, which was originally called the “Salute to Israel Parade” has taken place every Spring in Manhattan, since 1965, or for the last forty eight years. Yet, if one reviews the various tour books about NYC, whether it is Frommer’s, Fodor’s or any of the other major tour books, there is not one mention of this parade. The publishers always have some non-credible excuse, regarding the omission of this event. In fact, all of the other major parades such as the Puerto Rican Day Parade, St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Columbus Day Parade, Thanksgiving Parade, Gay Pride Parade, Armed Forces Day Parade, etc., are all mentioned. The only tour book, which refers to the Israeli Day parade, is the one published by the AAA.
To #4 - Most of the marchers in the parade are secular, non-frum Jews. They are still Jews! Therefore, your remark that you wished that there had been more men with tzitzits was sarcastic, and mean spirited!!
Special thank you to VIN for bringing this wonderful coverage to us. You have done a superb job. What a Kiddush Hashem!
To #15 - To quote Ronald Reagan- “There you go again”- You have essentially called, non frum Jews “insane”, for refusing to wear tzitzits. You cannot force your religious beliefs upon other people, and then criticize them for not following your religious practices. This is America, and we still have freedom of religion, which is guaranteed by not only the U.S. Constitution, but also by the Constitutions of every state in the republic!
I so wanted to be there but I couldn’t. But thank you for the amazing pictures! What a glorious day for Israel! It was nice to see so many kids taking pride in Israel. Question: what was the reaction to Shelly Silver & Wiener? Boos or applause?
