From now on, Levine, the shul's president, after observing the traditional moment of silence in memory of recently deceased members, will lead a cheer for the new babies born that month to synagogue members.
Indeed, Emanuel has reason to cheer. Just last month, during the Hebrew month of Kislev which, this year fell mid-November through mid-December, the Mohegan Rd. shul celebrated the bris milah of five baby boys. That brings the total number of babies born to or adopted by Emanuel members in 2007 to 15, not to mention the baby boy born to the shul's student rabbinic intern, with five of the 14 families welcoming third and fourth children. As far as I know, we have no traditions for “moments of silence”.
