There is a great line in this weeks parsha. Reuvan and Gad want to stay put and build their land and houses. Moshe tells them – You want to stay here when your brothers are fighting?

Let the bill pass. It’s about time the charedi begin to physically help the country that supports and protects them, and provides them a place to practice their faith as they wish. A lot of Israeli men and women have died serving in the military providing that protection. As much as I might wish it, studying Torah won’t stop a bullet when some terrorist or person who wishes to do ill to the Jewish people pulls a trigger.

I just read the article in the Times about how the ultra-Orthodox treat Israeli soldiers. It was shocking. This is the fight that will decide the future of the state.
