Alan Gladstone, a spokesman for the Committee To Recall Maureen Kenney, said about 100 volunteers are ready to begin circulating the recall petitions as soon as they become available, which is expected to be on Monday.

‘‘We’re definitely going to accomplish our mission if we have to go forward,’’ Gladstone said. ‘‘We hope Maureen would resign, rather than have us go through all this time and effort. But if this is the only way we can do it, so be it.’’

The group filed more than 800 signatures supporting her recall with the town clerk’s office on Wednesday. They believe Kenney is unfit for elective office after she admitted to making anti-Semitic comments toward School Superintendent Richard Silverman during a closed-door meeting in October.

‘‘We had accumulated more than 800 signatures, so we should have no problem getting 500 (valid) signatures out of that,’’ Gladstone said.

Kenney resigned from the school committee on Nov. 8 [as reported by VIN News] and apologized to Silverman, the community and to school committee member Tamara Pitts, who was also at the closed-door meeting.

At the Oct. 23 meeting, Kenney said that she believed that Silverman’s request for up to five days of paid leave after the death of a close family member was excessive and unnecessary.

‘‘It’s not the standard in industry,’’ Kenney is quoted by Silverman as saying in a letter recounting the incident. ‘‘Besides, don’t you Jews plant them within 24 hours.’’ [patriotledger]

Not knowing any of the protagonists personally, it’s hard to judge. But it appears that the issue with Ms. Kenney’s remarks are more than [just] a slip of the tongue. Firstly, she seems to have a big mouth, driven by an infected/prejudiced mind that is unrestrained by a sense of decency.
