Jeffrey Weissman, 59, made his first appearance in an Essex County, N.J., courtroom, following his seven-count indictment on the assault charges, Essex Prosecutor Paula Dow said in a news release.
Superior Court Judge Harold Fullilove set bail at $25,000 for Weissman, who could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted, Dow said. Weissman, an orthopedic surgeon with a practice in Howard Beach, has a history of suspensions by New York state oversight agencies. Weissman did not respond to a request for comment Friday. [amny]
