New Hampshire – Jason Bedrick, the first Orthodox member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, loves former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. But he was going to have to skip a Huckabee campaign event in his hometown of Windham because it was to be held at the Lobster Tail restaurant.

Bedrick, a member of a Chabad synagogue in Massachusetts, informed the campaign that he would be unable to attend the event at a non-kosher establishment.
A larger than expected turnout, however, led the Republican’s campaign to relocate the rally to the Windham Center school, and Bedrick showed up with a reported 600 others.
“It was absolutely packed,” Bedrick told JTA. “People were shoulder to shoulder. There were people waiting in line about an hour after to shake the governor’s hand.”
Huckabee, a former Baptist minister, has unnerved some liberal and Democratic Jewish groups with his evangelical rhetoric and statements.
Bedrick is unmoved by such concerns, describing Huckabee as a man of principles who upholds conservative values like economic freedom and personal liberty.
Despite a surprise victory in the Iowa caucuses last week, in which evangelical voters turned out in droves to support him, Huckabee is expected to have more trouble in New Hampshire, where voters are less excited by the candidate’s heavily Xtian rhetoric.
Did any of you read his foreign policy statements on Israel-I would be very scary of him ;his econimic reforms are scary also
Lev milochim biyad Hashem….
Agree w/ Charlie Hall. It’s not mar’is ayin–everyone knows he’s there for the rally.
“Huckabee has more respect for our religion then any of the other candidates.”
HOW SO? thats a bold statement of opinon not fact (impossible to gauge)
and no evidence whatsoiever. The truth is, he has no real respect for other religions as evidenced by his constant refrain that all americans need to become good christians. he has a long list of such statements, and that is a scary thing.
As for john edwards, thats not what he said, so dont go and twist. He said that israel attacking itran would be the biggest threat to stability in the middle east – which is true. if israel attacks iran, all heck breaks loose.
Huckabee has more respect for our religion then any of the other candidates. He’s a good person, with high morals and strong principles. Don’t get fooled by the hate mongering lefties who just want to scare you. Be more afraid of John Edwards who said that Israel was the biggest problem in the middle east.
so now he is getting better. he used to talk about abortion as a “holocaust” now he talks about it like its a suicide bomber. how stupid.
what about the cases halachically permissible abortions?
what do we do if those were outlawed?
huckabee sounds more like ann coulter than ann coulter herself. his quotes in context on people being christian are scary. as a frum jew i would rather not have that as president all over again.
I’ve seen news accounts of New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, also an Orthodox Jew, attending political events at non-kosher Chinese restaurants in his district (which includes Manhattan’s Chinatown). AFAIK there has never been a single report of Silver ever having had so much as a single bite!
