Obama says he knows the not-guilty verdict reached late Saturday has elicited strong passions around the country. In a statement released Sunday, Obama is asking that all Americans respect the call for calm reflection. There have been a number of rallies and protests, most of which have been peaceful.

Obama says Americans should ask themselves if they’re doing all they can to stem gun violence, and what can be done to prevent future tragedies like the Florida shooting.

George Zimmerman was found not guilty of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Martin, an unarmed teen. Martin’s killing in February 2012 unleashed debate across the U.S. over racial profiling, self-defense and equal justice.

The death of a bum a tragedy for America. His death was due to ‘gun violence’. I am simply speechless.

Mr. President: what about shootings everyday in Chicago where 90 % of the victims are black that’s not a tragedy for the country? Oh I forgot the shooters over there are black so that’s OK. What a hypocrite.

He should have been convicted of murder one, that lying bastard! I hope he rots in hell for the murder he clearly committed! Minorities can’t get a fair shake at justice in this country! Zimmerman? No, I was referring to OJ Simpson !!!

Aside from being among those who abhor the views and policies of Obama, this statement is one of those that makes me question his ability to use good judgment (in turn raising the question of his qualification for leadership). This trial was not about gun violence, nor was it about racial anything. It was crafted into those political issues by politicians who hoped to get some mileage out of it, at the expense of millions of others. The verdict simply challenged this, and the judicial process of trial by jury did its job. Obama contributed to the forces that tried to derail the process by injecting other issues into the process. Let’s make passing of the allegations that the DOJ has been silently aiding the voices and organizations who want to protest with violence.

There was zero evidence for many of the allegations brought into the courtroom, and the defense had to fight to get testimony heard that basically disproved the charges.

We do need to increase awareness of gun violence, and we also need to seek ways of managing this problem without politicizing it, as our administration has been doing.

No statement denouncing or repudiating the gun violence, injuries and deaths in Chicago’s South Side. Why?

How???? How is Martin’s death a national tragedy. The jury got it right. The evidence didn’t deserve any conviction which is why the Sanford PD didn’t arrest Zimmerman last February. The NBC’s, NY Times, and Pal Sharptons of the country convicted Zimmerman in the court of public opinion for no reason. This should have been a non-issue. The courts have now ruled the same. Leave Zimmerman alone already.

Its quite possible Tryvon Martin was somewhat not all at fault , possible that zimmerman triggered the whole fight whatever happened he isn’t here to tell us we can only trust in our democratic justice jury system, whether its zimmerman, weberman, or grossman we have to satisfy ourselves with the fact that we hava justice system and they are the only ones to decide who is right or wrong, in every case there are 2 sides that think that they are right and that’s not for individuals to decide. As far as obama, mayb he should become a judge instead of president, this is totally none of the presidents business.

The only tragedy is that people think it is a tragedy that a criminal on drugs attacking another person being killed is a tragedy

Where was the same indignation by everyone when unarmed passengers were killed on the NYC subway over the years, by thugs carrying weapons? here is the sympathy for those victims? The one time that someone stood up to those punks with a gun (Bernhard Goetz) he was branded as a “vigilante”, and a “racist” by the news media. In court, Goetz was acquitted of all charges, with the exception of illegally possessing a hand gun. Incidentally, the last time that Obama interfered with a local law enforcement problem, (the Cambridge, Mass. Police Dept.), he was blasted by most parties, and was forced to have a “beer summit”.

Trayvon was a brutal punk who made the mistake of attacking a man who had a gun. Zimmerman was able to defend himself, much to the surprise of Trayvon. So long, Trayvon, we won’t be missing you.

    Mr president

His death was due to a “whatch u lookin at” attitude which resulted in a confrontation

Who hasn’t walked down the street in a black neighborhood and had the “watch u lookin at” thrown your way

Had trayvon just continued walking and ignored the meshiggene, INSTEAD OF HIS WHAT U LOOKON AT attitude, he’d be alive today. Eating skittles and Arizona iced tea

By the way, the whole skittles BS story is actually a lot less innocent than the media paints. According to Martin’s friends, he was an enthusiast of codeine drug and there is a codeine cocktail called purple drink which tryvon just happened to buy two of the three ingredients just minutes before shooting when he bought skittles and arizona watermelon cocktail. Doesn’t sound so innocent in that context, huh? .
