New York – State Police reached a milestone in 2007: Troopers handed out a million traffic tickets for the first time.
Acting Superintendent Preston Felton says preliminary statistics show 1,019,000 tickets were issued, reflecting what he says is a commitment to preventing deaths on the state's roads and highways.

Almost half of the tickets were for "priority offenses" — like failure to wear seatbelts, speeding or driving while intoxicated — that accounted for more than 70 percent of traffic deaths in 2006, according to the data released Tuesday. [AP]
maybe those who are whining about all those tickets should stop driving like psychopaths.
how many do you think are during the summer months?
WOW! Think of all that revenue it generates for the municipalities the offenses took place.
Even so, I would venture to say that the NYC Parking Violations Bureau / NYPD issued nearly a million parking tickets in the 5 Boroughs alone! Now THAT’S a cash cow.
I’ve always said the PVB should be a publicly traded company, which would have excellent dividend payouts to its shareholders.
Do the math. Multiply one million times $100.00. I bet there will be lots of new State Police cars on the road this year!
“this is a commitment to preventing deaths, etc.” They are so full of it! The main reason for these tickets are to meet quotas. Look, they are bragging about the number of tickets issued, NOT the number of lives saved. ON top of it all, NYS troopers are known to be very anti-semitic
Hey, not wearing a seat belt is serous stuff.
Just ask New Jersey Governor Jon “Crash Dummy” Corzine.
“priority offenses” like failure to wear seatbelts.
WOW – no wonder crime is so low. It’s about time we get those ppl committing such terrible “offenses” off our streets…That’s how it all begins. First you fail to wear seatbelts and before you know it you break into a bank and murder ppl on the streets…
Unfortunately I got one of the tickets in western NY.
And how many were bogus tickets. I have had many state troopers telling me that many times when they pull over a person they are not really sure how fast they were going. i thought radar is an exact science but troopers say it’s not the case and sometimes it’s a guessing game.
“shame on them. did they do a statitic on how many were for petty offenses and how many for real crimes.”
Silly – tickets aren’t for real crimes.
Anyway, State Police do not ticket in NYC, so you can basically double this number.
shame on them.
did they do a statitic on how many were for petty offenses and how many for real crimes.
