New York, NY – A couple of days ago the NY Post gossip page had a story [VIN News did not cover the story] that claimed that staffers at the Hotel Gansevoort’s in manhattan taunted a Spa participating jew wearing a yarmulke, eventually booting him and his friend from the club and spitting in the friend’s face.

According to NY Magazine The Gansevoort hotel has now issued a statement telling their side of the story:
“The NY Post item about a New Year’s Eve scuffle at the Hotel Gansevoort was one-sided and patently false. After reviewing security camera tapes and interviewing eyewitnesses, it is apparent that He was not wearing a yarmulke, as reported, and the hotel is not anti-Semitic. Those charges, made by a disgruntled publicist, were meant to discredit the hotel and were disturbing to the hotel’s owners who happen to be of the Jewish faith.”
Kudos to VIN for knowing the story was fishy.
Not at all surprising considering what a rag the Post has become under the ownership of Rupert Mordoch.
Anyone who believes what the gossip page reports deserves what he gets. It’s well known that they make up their stories. That’s why they’re always phrased as questions: “Is it true that the Gansvoort threw out a Jew with a yarmulke?” That way if they get sued they’ll say “the answer to our question was no”.
I suggest to teh hotel managment taht to make really true ammends they should host a Mashgiach’s convention, Those of you that know this hotel property will know how truelly funny that suggestion is.
