Today’s theft is just one in a string of package theft that has plagued the Midwood area over the past few weeks.
“We had already seen the suspect on video surveillance cameras,” Chaim Deutsch, founder of Flatbush Shomrim and a Democratic City Council candidate, told VIN News. “We knew we were looking for a white, bald male with shorts, a green t-shirt, carrying a clipboard.”
This was not the first package theft for the unidentified woman, who lives in Midwood and is currently located in Woodridge.
“A little over a week ago I was expected some packages and usually my neighbor takes them in for me,” explained the woman. “I called my neighbor who told me there were no packages at my door but I tracked them online and saw they had already been delivered.”
Working with the delivery time reported by UPS, the woman checked the video feed of her home surveillance system and saw a man with a clipboard approach her home and circle the area, taking first one package, then another and finally three more. She called Deutsch who advised her to call 911 and filed a full police report.
“I stopped all packages,” reported the woman, “but there was still one in transit and I knew it was coming today.”
Making arrangements with her husband to pick up the package after it was delivered, the woman tapped into her video feed and was shocked to see a white van pulling up towards her house.
“He looked as if he was checking for something and I recognized it was the same guy I had seen previously. I called my husband and then I called Chaim Deutsch again.”
Deutsch called both Flatbush Shomrim coordinator Tzvi Weill and police, giving them both a description of the subject. Weill canvassed the area until he had the suspect in sight.
“I am on two phones at the same time, coordinating between our member, who was following the subject from a distance and the captain of the 63rd precinct,” explained Deutsch. “The police came down and stopped him, locating both the missing package and the clipboard in his vehicle.”
According to Deutsch, the suspect was carrying a taser at the time of his apprehension.
Good thing the member didn’t get out of his car.
Otherwise we would have had Obama say that he could’ve been a Jewish shomrim guy 35yrs ago.
Where was George Zimmerman when you need him?
WELL DONE!!
CCTV works wonders!! Good Job Mr Deutch!
Go tzvi!!
Nice.
The real hero here is Zvi Weill. He is flatbush’s version of superman and spiderman and maybe even a little batman.
Tzvi, YOU ROCK!!! and of course Chaim too…
Chaim, thank you. Please conmtact the DA’s Office and see that this perp gets special treatment.
What is the suspects name? Show us his FACE Not his back!
To Chaim Deutch and Tzvi Weil: Thank you for helping protect our neighborhood and its residents. You’re both true “menchen” and role models to the entire community. It is an honor to know both of you (for so many years). Keep it up!
Whats impressive is how much people care about the community. Taking the time to save others from money loss and aggrevation while at the same time making a kiddush hashem with the police department and many others. To all the Shomrim members I send a huge thank you and please please keep doing what you do and may hashem keep you all safe.
So proud to live in this community, so proud to know the Weills and the Deutschs, so proud that this super-team keeps our community safe so selflessly…
Mi k’amcha yisrael!
It is happening to me too, 2 packages claimed to be delivered were not received. I am in not in Midwood. More than one are doing this. PO should leave a notice of attempted delivery when no one home.
So you can pick it up at PO or ask for a redelivery.
