Around 20 lawmakers are scheduled to participate in the events organized by the Faith and Politics Institute. Most are Democrats but there are also a handful of Republicans, including House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., who is to speak Saturday at a Jewish center in Queens.

The lawmakers also will have breakfast Friday morning with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a prominent supporter of a comprehensive immigration overhaul.

At a time when immigration legislation is stuck in limbo in Congress, organizers said the hope is to promote reflection on the nation’s immigrant history.
