A New Brunswick police spokesman initially said anti-Semitism wasn't being considered as a possible factor after nearly 500 headstones were found toppled at the Poile Zedek Cemetery. But Sgt. Richard Rowe now says he misspoke.

City police and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the crime as was reported here on Vos Iz Neias.

Sure there is. Pure vandalism. Most vandalism to cemeteries, churches, shuls, etc. is not at all bias-related. These are favourite targets of vandals, both because of the transgressive thrill and because they’re empty at night and often away from any neighbours and don’t usually have good security.

Desecrating a cemetery can ONLY be considered a hate/bias crime.

There is not any other possible motive.
