The new permit is for towers about 1,000 feet away from the highway, 89 feet tall on private land in the town of Lake George and 79 feet tall in Lewis. They’re near the southern and northern edges of the nearly 50-mile dark zone along the highway.
Last month, the agency approved a tower permit for North Hudson, on private land along Route 9 but within view of Interstate 87 and providing coverage for about three miles north and south. That’s roughly 10 miles south of the spot where a R’ Efraim Langner from Brooklyn crashed and froze to death last year, unable to call for help.
