The fingerprinting program, implemented in 1998 under then-Gov. George Pataki, is being discontinued, said David Hansell, commissioner of the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.

Officials say it has become a deterrent for working families entitled to food stamps.

Families with one adult working 30 hours per week – or with two adults each working 20 hours per week – will now be able to avoid fingerprinting.

The move is part of Gov. Spitzer’s new Working Families Food Stamp Initiative.

The idea came about after officials found that the number of New Yorkers receiving food stamps – 1.8 million – had remained stagnant for a number of years, and those taking advantage of the program were disproportionately unemployed.

The administration wants to enroll 100,000 additional families to receive food stamps. [nypost]

I’m not a lwyer but the words ” we want to enroll another 100,000 people scares the heck out of me and my community.

So the democrat Spitzer would like to see an additional 100,000 poor people in our city?

I just made my decision to Vote for a Republican in the next election.

“Food Stamps Work” is only half of the slogan.
The other half is “For Those Who Don’t”.
