Borough Park, NY – Lander Wants Citi Bike Program Expanded To His Brooklyn District

Borough Park, NY – Brooklyn City Councilman Brad Lander says it is time for city government to step up and allocate some funding so that New York’s hugely successful Citi Bike program can be expanded to all sections of the city—including his Park Slope district in Brooklyn.

The NEW YORK DAILY NEWS (http://nydn.us/1coTQ2B) is reporting that Lander, who was recently invited to the White House in recognition of his initiative allowing residents a voice in allocating City Council funds, said he would back an allocation of city funds allowing the program to expand beyond its current boundaries.

In commenting on the Citi Bike program, which has seen some 1.5M riders log over 3M miles since its May kickoff, Lander said, “It’s a piece of public transportation infrastructure. I’d be glad to allocate some city capital to expand the bike sharing stations.”

Citi Bike, which has, to date, operated solely on funding obtained through sponsorships with private sector firms, has been a big hit with New Yorkers, causing Lander to wonder how much expansion can take place without a “legitimate” investment from the public.

Why stop there. Brooklyn is treated like a red headed step child, Brighton Beach should also get these bicycles.

I live in Lander’s district and I and my neighbors have no interest in having the bike sharing program in our neighborhood!

He doesn’t fear “outsiders” accidentally riding into holy BP and causing bad influence on the precious children?
