In an interview published online Wednesday by Amazon’s Kindle Singles, Obama lamented a shift in culture toward consumption and the focus on celebrity lifestyles.
Obama says when he was growing up, “Kids weren’t monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing or where Kanye West was going on vacation, and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success.”
Obama says his daughters, Malia and Sasha, have family members who are in the middle class or even poor, so they see that others struggle and that their life is “not the norm.”
The interview is available for free download.
After his term is up, he will fade into oblivion.

Success has its journey.
I cannot believe that this is even an issue for those two spoiled girls! They get designer name clothes, go on exotic vacations (on taxpayer dime), and basically live like princesses in a palace!
How could this be an issue? Oh wait. I see who their parents are… Pretending like a King and Queen taking separate private jets to their vacation that left only hours apart!
Growing up in a middle class family, I knew there were people who were a whole lot worse off than we were. My parents taught us to always give to those who had less than us and we learned not to beg for the latest gadget or fashion accessory. We were lucky to have what we did. But these kids?

I wish you were right. More likely he will be a smarter version of Jimmy Carter, spreading his anti Israel propaganda around the world for the rest of his life, taking up the rights of terrorists and persisting the myth of Israeli apartheid.
Excuse me – but who was president when the market went crash???? I don’t think it was Obama!!! 800 billion dollars to repair (and never see again) was during the BUSH white house. Hello! Oh – I shouldn’t confuse you with the facts? Everyone is entitled to his own opinion – but as Sen. Moynihan said, you’re not entitled to your own facts.
Not normal? Exactly what is “normal life” for half-white half-Kenyan?
