Crown Heights, Brooklyn, NY – Lubavitch Messianist Wing Appealing Decision of State Supreme Court

Crown Heights, Brooklyn, NY – New York's highest appellate court may soon find itself ruling on the battle splitting Chabad Lubavitch into two.

The case reached the New York Court of Appeals after the New York State Supreme Court ruled two weeks ago in favor of Agudas Chasedei Chabad, which had filed suit to halt activities by the messianist wing at the synagogue at 770 Eastern Parkway, to object there activity including a banner which proclaims, "May our master, teacher and rabbi, the King Messiah, live forever," and the frequent singing of a song with the same words.

State Supreme Court Justice Ira Harkavy ruled that since ACC are the legal owners of the property, they have the right to determine what activity is permitted there and who is permitted to enter.
However, the messianist appealed, arguing that the question of who should be making decisions about internal synagogue affairs is none of the court's business. [haaretz]

Sounds to me like when after 9/11President Bush talked about a few radicals who have hijacked one of the worlds great peaceful faiths.

Amazing how so few can make a whole group look crazy and give everyone else cover by saying ‘it is only a few nuts’.

Or when a crooked cop gets caught and the mayor talks about a few bad apples in every bunch. Where were the good apples to stop the few bad ones??? Instead the bad ones know they can hide behind the Blue Wall of Silence.

    a few points.

You’re right, there aren’t 2 million Lubavitchers, even though we are so well known worldwide. Unless you count everyone who ever was even loosely associated with Chabad.

8:04 – you have no right to tell us what to do or not to do. You have a problem with the fact that we no longer have a Rebbe B’guf? Too bad. It’s none of your business. Come to that, it’s not mine either. There were 7 Rebbes. That’s it. We aren’t Bobov, Satmer, Ger, etc. BTW, if you’re going to talk about a Chillul Hashem, I can think of at least 2 prominent groups of Chassidim recently in court over succession, & one in court now for “financial Issues.” So don’t preach Chillul Hashem about Lubavitch!

Finally, most Lubavitchers do not fly flags, sing stupid songs, or do any other ridiculous things. We just want to get on with the job of helping people become closer to G-d & their heritage.

These demented Talibanisten terrorists need to leave 770 NOW & let all us normal people daven there in peace. Deport them, they’re a bunch of nutsos, mainly Israelis, spurred on by political manipulators in CH. These local bad guys should get out too. This has nothing to do with Kovod HaRebbe, it has to do with power. The posters who said the Rebbe never said he was Mosghiach are correct. And don’t bother bringing “proof”. There isn’t any, only lies & fabrications.

ditto I could not have said it better word for word. I agree and also lived in CH many years ago while not very close anymore to chabad I most certainly understand where they are coming from and deeply respect them for there conviction until today and forever.

unfortunatly there is barely 2 million shomer shabbos jews in the world
#2- just about all lubavitchers think he is or at least a good canidate for moshiach
3- unless you feel its “assur” to believe.. , whats really so terrible about it? it helps many cope with the loss and continue in his derech
4- making a new rebbe is very different for chabad, than say bobov ,satmar etc..
he wasnt a rebbe like others his chasssidim never really saw him as a human because he was gebentched with enormous physical and mental kochos
    HE DID NOT GO TO:
    WEDDINGS,DINNERS,VISIT MILLIONARES,
    THE REBBE NEVER:
SLEPT ON A FRIDAY NIGHT(TILL THE STROKE)(IT WAS A TNAI IN HIS ENGAGMENT TO THE MAHARIYAT”TZ DAUGHTER THAT LEIL SHABBOS WOULD BE FOR “CHASIDUS”
    ATE WITH AN OILAM,
NEVER SHMOOZED EVEN WITH THE CLOSE CABINET
THE REBBE : EVEN IN HIS OLD AGE
FASTED EVERY MON/THURS UNTIL HE CAME BACK FROM THE OHEL FOR MINCHA WHICH WAS DARK
ON A MOTZEI YOMTOV WHEN EVERY REBBE IS VERY TIRED HE HAD THE STRENGTH TO GIVE ” KOS SHEL BRACHA” STANDING FOR 5 HOURS NOT TO MENTION EREV YOM KIPPUR LEKACH,DOLLARS..
5- although i am not a lubavitcher my family lived there for 30 years
AND I OBSERVED UP CLOSE THERE SO MUCH MORE MAY HASHEM WATCH HIS YESOMIM

    just for the record
all lubavitchers believe the rebbe is moshiach but the question is do weplay the politicial cards right, with the fund raisers, telethons or chinese raffles
bottom line if a lubavitcher chassid went through any lubavitch yeshiva 100% believes the rebbe is moshiach!
If the rebbe would be here begasimous he would also agree!
    a good shabbos

During bentching, “Harachamon hu yishlach lanu Eliyahu Hanavi zachur latov, viyevaser lanu besoros tovos….” is regarding the coming of Mashiach Tzidkeinu which must be preceded by Eliyahu Hanavi arriving first and heralding the coming of Mashiach.

While I can understand the pain of any Lubavitcher chassid upon their Rebbe’s passing, life must go on. Throughout the generation, whether in the time of the tanna’im or any time later, people were sure that their manhig would be the Mashiach. But as we have not yet been zocheh, and these manhigim would be niftar, they went on with life, looked for another manhig, (as we are told “….aseh lechah rav….)and continuously hoped to be zocheh to biyas Mashiach.

What this (hopefully) minority among Lubavitch don’t realize, that while they may be right in believing that if we would be zocheh and their Rebbe Zt”zl would have been Mashiach, right now, it doesn’t make a difference! He is no longer alive. He has gone the way of any bassar vadam. (Also, he never chas veshalom declared himself to be Mashiach; he wanted people talking about mashiach which is perfectly right, as we say in Ani Maamin; Ani Maamin bevias Hamashiach…..achkeh lo BECHOLL YOM sheyavoh)

Tzaddikim of previous generations who would have been Mashiach if their dor would have merited, are also no longer alive. As frum Yidden, we just have to pick up the pieces, find a new manhig and continue hoping bevias Hamashiach bimhaira b’yameinu.

Why? Oh why? My dear fellow Yidden?? Why must we always fight and make a chilul Hashem?? Moshiach needs to come for this reason alone!! I think Lubavitch has to get over the fact that the Lubavitcher Rebbe Zatzal was Niftar and move on. Appoint another leader who can guide you and help bring the Moshiach already!!!
    We need PEACE not PIECES!!

Haaretz thinks everything that happens in Lubavitch is about the Moshiach issue. This court case has nothing to do with that issue. The fact that Aguch and the gabo’im disagree on that issue isn’t relevant to the case – it would have played out the same way had they been in complete agreement about Moshiach.

    2,000,000 lubavitchers. In your dreams.

This from a long time supporter of lubavitch. The exaggeration makes you look foolish.

I am lubavitch and live in Crown Heights and I second the above commenter. Although I don’t think there are 2 million Lubavitchers. Are you including all Shluchim and their communities around the world?
As a fact we believe the Rebbe can be Moshiach but we are not flag wavers and demonstrators.

How could the case reach the Court of Appeals? Supreme Court’s rulings are appealed to Appellate Division; only then (and not always) can you appeal to the Court of Appeals.
