Brooklyn, NY – In Crown Heights, bulletproof glass and police surveillance cameras are as common a sight as Zagat-rated eateries in Park Slope — a neighborhood only a mile away. in this Brooklyn's kid-friendly brownstone neighborhoods, some parents feel safe enough to park strollers outside while shopping.

In Crown Heights, Andrew Vail, 18, listed a litany of disparities, including the NYPD surveillance cameras and heavy police presence that have flooded his neighborhood.

"It makes me feel like I have no privacy because I feel like they're watching everything I do," said Vail.

But elsewhere in Brooklyn residents said they are enjoying less crime, smoother streets, better grocery stores and fewer problems — in general, a better way of life.

According to the NYPD 2007 records, there were 15 homicides in Crown Heights and only 1 in Park Slope. Crown Heights had 299 burglaries and Park Slope only 195, and in robberies there were 379 in Crown Heights and 168 in Park Slope.

There is an Orthodox synagogue in Park Slope that I am sure would love to accomodate the Crown Heights refugees.

Come to think of it, there are a bunch of empty synagogues in safe neighborhoods in the Bronx that could be taken over and rescued from sale to non-Jews.

The Rebbe was against leaving crown heights it would be chutpah to leave now and the crime problem can be fixed if we got a new leadership and GUNS

    I agree with above messages…
    A. most of the crimes that happen are recorded (if at all) under lesser severity of the actual crime committed.
    B. Moving Upstate or elsewhere will do a lot, though most will prefer to call Crown Heights home. It is in the blood.
    C. Police presence in Crown Heights??? Where? Undercover? I walk home from the train to see only 1 officer for a 7 block stretch… I can’t believe someone can feel like they are being “overly watched”, unless the cops hide like the rats…

I think chabad should just move out and go up state somewhere ,like all other sects of judaism are doing and create thier own town . Call it Kiryat Mashiach if you will, but just get out of crown heights. Its a war zone there. You can live so much more peacefull out of the heart of brooklyn.

Tell em that the Jews will move en masse to Park Slope if they don’t clean up Crown Heights…That’ll motivate em

And these stats are based on the reports the police actually took! What about all the unreported crimes in Crown Heights that happened because victims were intimidated not to report, or because they knew/know nothing will happen anyway.

Crime in Crown Heights is a daily occurrence, not just the sensational, headline stuff.
