Now, it turns out, that the Nevada Democratic State Convention– an all-day event– will be held Saturday, April 19, in Reno. Not only is that the Jewish Sabbath, but that evening is the start of Passover. The Democratic State Conventions in Connecticut that nominated Joe Lieberman for Senate always met on Saturday. On at least one occasion they showed a video of him accepting the nomination that had been recorded before Shabat.
It was sad to know lat shabbos that none of Nevada’s frum republicans or seventh day adventists were able to vote in the republican cuacuses becuase it was on saturday.
Unfortunately the frum media – which is largely new york based and egocentric, let this pass and did nothing to report it or make a big deal about it.
Last weekend the republican party of nevada basically said “screw you” to all those who observe the sabbath.
