There is a company which distributes weekly fliers and small ad papers from various different stores – and all come wrapped in a white, plastic bag. The fliers have many indecent photos which are offensive to the local residents, and they should have the right to request to not have them thrown onto their properties against their will.
As many of the readers recall, in February 2007, VIN News posted a similar story which occurred in the Williamsburg community, and involved the NY Newsday Distribution Co. and JC Penny magazine.
Thanks to thousands of phone calls to the NY Newsday, the distribution of the unwanted fliers were stopped in that area, after Newsday agreed to meet with local Askonim; and a map of the frum community was drawn.
The Boro Park Askonim are now asking for your assistance in the Boro Park area. Kindly call the distribution company, C.B.A., at 1-800-376-6222. Give them your name,
address and phone number, and request that they stop distributing this unwanted material to your property.
They won’t take me off unless I have a name of a paper that is inside…
it must be removed, it can not be lifted either
As much as I hate agreeing with anything done in the name of yiddishkeit by Brooklyn ‘machers’, I still must side with the ‘askunim’ on this one. There is no way to keep these papers from falling into the hands of children walking in the street.
All the years of keeping the TV out of the house and your kids away from the movies and from the homes of friends who have TV and protecting them from the noxious atmosphere of today’s “culture” can be wiped out by a boy getting his hands on a lingerie catalog at an impressionable age.
Studies have shown that children coming in contact with sexually stimulating material at a young age are many more times likely to be users of hard-core porn later in life.
Yasher kochachem to all the ‘askunim’ involved in this effort. V’hoyah machanechoh kodesh.
You wouldn’t put up with this company using your lawn as a toilet. This is a million times worse.
Let’s see you get all hot under the collar about real issues (Shidduchim, aniyim, ganovim…) A gadol in EY was approached by his talmidim and asked what could be done about the inapropriate bus shelter ads. The answer; go to another bus shelter!
This is completely inappropriate. We must immediately picket this company and stage demonstrations to ensure that this stops immediately. Indecent pictures should only be delivered in non-descript envelopes so that ch’v the yenta next door shouldn’t know what we read. To deliver these pictures in a white bag is inexecusable.
I used to get disgusting catalogs & magazines in the mail. I called up the company & said I had a family member with an addiction & would they please stop sending them to me as he sometimes got to the mail first. I don’t know how my name got on their list, I would never buy their stuff. But this was all I could think of to stop it.
Guess what? It worked!!
This is mental illness
Are these the same “Asskonim” who accomplished the music friday before the Z’man? Trust me, true Askonim are busy acomplishing far more important tasks.
Anon at 3:09-
The wind carried the white plastic bag with all its contents into your yard? That makes as much sense as what these crazy so called “Askonim” want to do. The papers flying into your yard will continue even after the get rid of these white bags with advertisements inside.
why do we need Askonim for this.
I can’t see the problem, anything wrong here.
what about teen dropouts. will this save our teenagers.
how about the fact that it rains and wind.. and they blow around and i end up getting a ticket from sanitation dept.. and they blow in from neighbors! who wants to fite my 3 sanitation tickets for “paper floating around” . unfortunately i am the only one on my side of the block w/o a gate. so they all end up by me!.. it’s not as if they throw it perfectly by steps.
and whoever doesn’t approve of the pics.. pick it up right away and throw it out. even in recycling.. get a life..
on the other hand let them cater to our community and our needs.
I have yet to see any Rabbonim take this up. Nobody is getting anything they don’t want.
As most here agree, one shouldn”t be opening the closed bag. It’s not like all of the sudden cereal boxes started showing these ads. Then it would be appropriate to make an outcry.
Perhaps we should monitor who goes into local Rite-Aid and CVS stores. My wife has seen heimishe young men (and buchrim) looking at all the glossy magazines there. No, not the racing cars!!! Something else was racy!
I agree. This isn’t the ramat bet shemesh bet Taliban….
i agree with anon 1/23 2:31. Some people forget that we are still in golus and must act accordingly.
if they come in a white plastic.how does one know what the pics inside look like?just throw it away.problem solved.no big panic and phone campaign necessary.save your energy for more important matters.
You can’t just dump it into a garbage can. You have to recycle it. This means that I have to keep it with my other paper until recycle day. (once a week) Why should I have to do that? Who gives them the right to ‘litter’ and throw their garbage on my property?
get a life, you don’t want to see it don’t open the “white bag”. You see more garbage just going to the internet. Find something to do w/ your time.
So when are we going to be put into a ghetto? whoever doesn’t want it can dump it directly in their garbage can. Why impose ur lifestyle/Hashkafah on other ppl?
