Terrence Cecil Tremaine, 59, is charged after police received a complaint 18 months ago about a suspect allegedly using the internet to promote hatred. Police will not say what the group mentioned was, but court documents say it was the Jewish community.
Police say it was a fairly extensive investigation, involving the execution of a search warrant of a home.
The charge against Tremaine was laid earlier this week. The alleged internet postings were made between February 1st, 2004, and November 1st, 2007.
As is the case when an alleged hate crime is committed, police must consult with the attorney general’s office before charges are laid.
Tremaine has been released from custody on an undertaking and is scheduled to return to court, February 25th. [newstalk650]
