Metro-North Rail Road says its conductors will start using handheld electronic devices for on-board ticket sales.
The MTA agreed to a one year contract with Verizon for $420,000 to develop the devices.
They’ll replace the hole-punched tickets and will allow riders to pay using credit cards. Conductors will also be able to receive text message about service disruptions and operations.
About 500 of the devices will be rolled out on April 1st. [NY1]
