Sponsored by the Zalman Yuda Deitch Mezuzah Fund, the program will also help students affix the sacred items – a box containing a scroll with the Shema and other biblical passages written on it – to their doorways.
In addition to being a biblical mandate, Jewish tradition views the commandment as being beneficial to welfare of the home’s occupants. [chabad.org]
matzahlocal 101 3:02AM Just to enhance your point. The REM”A (REMOO…) (in the cited sec. of Yoreh Deah 286(b)) stipulates that [the obligation/permission] to affix a Mezuzah, [in certain locations] depends on the position of the doorpost (inside/outside of room). Another example that he cites is, about business partners. But we’re not running a [legal] forum. In addition, [some] people become hysterical and self-conscious, instead of reading/studyimg the relevant text.
I understood exactly what Bigwheel meant just as soon as I read it. It is a serious problem especially on the doorpost of a frei student in a coed college dorm. And the solution is just as complicated, because you can’t give the guy a double cover for the mezuzah, because than it’s specifically becomes a mezuzah cover and can’t be used for the purpose intended. Let’s hope that the mezuzahs are on the outside of the door and what’s happening in the hallways is not worse than what’s happening in the rooms.
What an incredible idea!!
Didn’t the Rebbe require a token amount of money be paid so as not to “cheapen” mitzvos? I was under the impression that although there is a teffilin and mezuzah fund those signing up still pay a small amount. Perhaps in the case of students we can make an exception…
Anon. 8:38AM As i answered Non. 2:11AM. I’ve been intentionally vague (in my original post). But there are certain stipulations for a Mezuzah to be affixed to a doorpost. Has nothing to do with keeping Kosher, Etc.
Anon. 2:11AM Thanx for the personal attack/s. The answer to your specific attack is multi-faceted (pls. lk. up in dict.), after having taken the pills to calm nerves and induce sleep.; 1) Read the stipulation (has nothing to do with staples or staplers) by REM”A (you can Google his background and biography. Just kidding) in Chap. 286, subsec. (b). For further assistance , ask your Rav who “educated” you.
There are additional stipulation. But I’ve been intentionally vague. sipulations, too; 2) Your {English} Spelling leaves a lot to be desired; 3)—- — —-
bigwheel is great, he makes sure we are all awake when we read this.
Mi K’amcha Yisroel?
So according to Bigwheel’s reasoning, Mezuzahs should only be affixed to homes whose occupants keep Kosher, Taharas Hamishpacha, Shabbos etc? Where exactly is that written in Shema? Or anywhere else, maybe?
Affixing a Mezuzah requires adhering to certain wholesome behavior? Since when? Stop making up dinim.
Big Wheel, your am-horatzes knows no bounds.
Go ask your Rav who “educated” you on the Mitzvah of Mezuzah and he will tell you that its a Di’oraiso and is not dependant on any of your silly thoughts.
