Luis Batista, 34, helped run a cocaine ring that engaged in violence, the indictment read.
Also charged in the case was Sgt. Henry Conde, who was arrested in July on charges of obstruction of justice and lying to the FBI.

Conde is alleged to have searched an Internal Affairs Bureau to see if Batista's alleged involvement in the drug ring was under investigation.
Conde, of Franklin Square, L.I., is a 13-year veteran who along with Batista, is accused of trying to obstruct the grand-jury investigation into the drug ring.
Another NYPD officer, identified only as John Doe #3, is still under investigation, according to the indictment.

Batista's attorney Jim Moschella said his client denies any wrongdoing. [wnbc]
