According to the  Manhattan DA’s office, the defendants allegedly paid thousands of dollars for answers to the Commercial Driver’s License written exams.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. and New York State Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott stated the defendants paid up to $4,000 between April and August of 2013 for someone else to take the test for them. Test takers would remove the test from the DMV, give it to other members of the scheme who knew the answers then take the completed test back to the DMV.

Tuesdays indictments are a continuation of an investigation first started in September of 2013. Eight of the ten defendants charged by the DA’s office have pleaded guilty.

Charges include offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree (class E felony) and false statements, alteration of records, or substitution in connection with an examination (misdemeanor).
