From his perch as executive vice president at the Sephardic Community Federation, Greenfield helped found TEACH-NYS (teachnys.org, a state-wide coalition that brings educators, business people, rabbis, Catholic bishops and leading African-American Ministers together to advocate on behalf of New York ’s 500,000 non-public school children.

“The No. 1 domestic priority for observant Jews is education,” Greenfield says. “I don’t believe that the government can solve the tuition crisis, but I also don’t believe that we can solve it without the government’s help.”

He’s certainly making inroads. TEACH-NYS’s achievements include the passage of a $600 million tax credit for parents of school-aged children in 2006. And this year, TEACH-NYS secured more than $54.9 million in new funding for non-public schools, plus an additional $6.2 million for computers. Last month, the Department of Education agreed to implement a pilot program that will lead to millions of dollars in new remedial services for struggling yeshiva students.

Greenfield is on the DOE’s Non-Public School Standing Committee, which represents all non-public schools in N.Y. He’s the first new member in a generation and the youngest in its history.

Well credentialed: Graduated valedictorian of Touro College at age 19, J.D. from Georgetown University , worked on Joe Lieberman’s presidential campaign — and is a certified scuba diver. In his spare time: Greenfield is a frequent guest on the weekly radio program “Talkline” with Zev Brenner. Fuhgedaboutit: He’s a lifelong Brooklyn resident — and proud of it.

jut worth mentioning David Greenfield, is running for the Brooklyn Council seat to be vacated in 2009 by Councilman Simcha Felder.

I don’t usually leave comments, but I feel a responsibility to publicly thank David for his work on behalf of the frum community. I have only gotten to know David recently through his work in the community but there is no doubt in my mind that he will make a terrific city Councilman.

I have seen firsthand the amount of hishtadlus that he has put in, not just on this issue, but on many other issues as well. His primary focus always appears to be whatever is in the best interest of the community as a whole.

I cant think of a better person to represent our interests in city council……..

Perhpas he is too good for the city council. Once he ends up there, the results of his hard work will wane. Who has ever accomplished anything great for our community in local government? A few grants won’t change much — we’ll get that from whoever holds the office.

David’s special talents are much better applied where he is now, or in a similar situation. Once he is a member of government, his effectiveness automatically will lessen. It would be a shame to lose him to his (or Felder’s) ambition. I hope he thinks more carefully where he can best be most effective.

Look how much he has already accomplished, at such a young age. I hope he continues — in the right setting. B’hatzlacha!

Pink fakert! We need young hardworking ambitious chevra in government. Why would someone old want to get anything done on behalf of the kehilla? They would treat it as a retirment. I plan on voting Greenfield for City Council. He’s the EXACT kind of person we need in government.

Greenfield comes from a real haimisha Brooklyn family. Not so much himself anymore, but he gets us, AND he’s intelligent and savvy enough to earn the respect of his peers. And speaking proper English helps! What guy with lange payos do you know who speaks proper English?!?!

The problem with Speaking only English is that you only know hear what your fellow politicians talk you can’t communicate with your mostly Yiddish speaking constituents to here out their needs. I thought you there to “represent your constituents” Or maybe not.

joe lazar is a man that has a track record of, doing not talking, for organizations and individuals without regard to race , creed and color.

he is not running for city council for the sake of honor or money, but simply for the fact that he cares to enrich our lives and for the betterment of the whole community.

So we judge people by how long their payos is?

People like you make us sick.

I would venture to say that people with smaller yarmules and little payos are more trust worthy than some people with the long payos.

Stop judging people by the hair.

Joe Lazar has an unbelievable track record in working for the klall. He does not need to pay Simcha Felder or anyone else with a good name to support him. Everyone I know is voting for him.

Joe is a tzadik and a kind hardworking and extremely honest individual. In his tenure in government he was a true kiddush Hashem and had an excellent reputation. I know him firsthand he has helped ALL of the moisdois in BP when he was a commissioner for the DOB. He is running to be the Borough Park frum politician and his energy is focused on our community not on everyone elses agenda’s.

Just being young and ‘with it’ doesn’t mean that you will focus your energies on being the councilmen for the district and not using it as a stepstool for your carreer.

I also am familiar with him. You couldn’t find a nicer guy. He is a wonderful guy who wants to run for our district. He is a heimishe who grew up in BP and knows what type of politician our communtiy needs. He is also being endorsed by Dov. We need people to fight for the frimme.

Joe is a nice old guy but we need young enthusiastic people in government. That’s why Simcha Felder has endorsed David Greenfield. Greenfield works non-stop on behalf of the community. That’s what we need. Not some retiree from Florida.

Sheldon Silver is backing Joe Lazar, as is Dov Hikind. They do NOT feel that he is ready for retirement. David Greenfield’s campaign is funded by the Sephardic community.

Nice of you to call Mr. Lazar as a retiree from Fl.As your statement is factually incorrect and utter stupidity.Wonder who you are planning to endorse?!

    FYI

Simcha and Joe aree good freinds and Simcha called Joe beforehand to let him know that he was endorsing David. At that time he was focusing on a citywide run and needed big money. Once he committed they shelled out the cash. Check his filing reports. It is interesting that every politician in our area endorses Joe beside for Simcha, who himself was running for a major office at the time. To say that Joe is a retiree and too old is ignorant and unfactual. Everyone that knows him and meets him sees the kind of guy his is, and he wants to be the Borough Park politician and believes a frum guy who knows OUR communities concerns should be in that seat. Not someones elses person

Joe Lazar, is Heimish, yidish speaking and, yes, perhaps folicly challanged! If these are really the qualities that you are looking for in the next person who will represent us in the City council then he meets those!

HOWEVER, If we are looking for a well rounded, experienced, RESPECTED, honorable, MENTCH, we need Joe as our next Councilman, not a “one trick pony” like DG. Not that he hasnt performed his “one trick” (TEACHNYS) well, just compare him to Rudy running for president, besdies for 9/11 what else was he famous for?????

One thing we can be sure of is that aside from always looking out for our community, Joe will NEVER get caught up in anything that will emabarrass us… just look at his past performance in government.

Dov and shelly cant be wrong!!! I will be voting for Joe
