Dr. Anand Kumar resigned as a critical care specialist, saying that providing further care to 84-year-old Samuel Golubchuk is an abomination.
“If we honestly attempt to follow the court mandate to focus on keeping Mr. Golubchuk from his natural death, we will likely have to continue to surgically hack away at his infected flesh at the bedside in order to keep the infection at bay,” Kumar said in his resignation letter today in court.
The family says removing the supports would violate Golubchuk’s Orthodox Jewish religious beliefs.
Good riddance!!!!
Tov shebarof’im l’gehinnom.
Why should he care if he has to continually perform surgery on this patient? He is getting paid to be a doctor, no one is making him work for free.
He is resigning because he is embarrassed from the publicity.
He isnt tov shebarofim
His name is Anand Kumar.
What would be his attitude if it were a sick cow? Would he pull the plug on it? And should our medical decisions be made by those who place the sanctity of a cow’s life over a human’s life?
In Canada he known as a trouble maker, we are not crying for him
if he is a good doctor whats adiffernce what he does
A rofeh (Doctor)is given Reshus (permission) by Hashem to Heal – not R’L otherwise
let kumar rot in hell!
Nothing like socialized medicine!
Funny how people don’t hesitate to bloviate when they know neither the patients condition nor the doctor. Normative halacha states that extraordinary steps need not be taken in certain situations. It’s silly to express any opinions in this case….
Oh Mark Levin you got that right!
Oh great, so some more people have a chance now to evade unexpected death..
moshe mulva,
Normative halacha? There are three positions, all normative. They are following a perfectly reasonable opinion though more machmir about defining murder than others.
Under correct circumstances, people should be allowed to die with dignity. They should not be made to suffer attached to all kinds of machines, being pumped with meds that make them crazy. halacha is much more flexible than people think. The Tanaaim and Amoraim of 2,000 years ago couldn’t agree on much, which is indicative of the inherent flexibility of Halacha…no matter what the Charedi say
When an invalid is ALREADY hooked up to life support, then it is OSUR to disconnect as long as he/she is alive.
The shayla is regarding putting the person on life support to begin with.
Expatriate owl, you are a bigoted pig. You clearly do not have even a modicum of knowledge regarding the Hindu faith. Furthermore, to assume a man named Kumar is Hindu is foolish in the extreme. True, his name is Kumar, which has Hindu roots. But he’s also a doctor, and a lot of them are atheist.
