New York, NY – The NYPD is expanding its use of the Taser stun gun, an old tool in the law enforcement arsenal, but one that has seen limited use in the nation’s largest police force.

Starting Wednesday, thousands of police sergeants will begin carrying electronic stun guns on their belts as part of an effort to give officers more alternatives to deadly force.
The main reason for the change is that newer Tasers are smaller, lighter and easier to carry in a holster than earlier models were, department spokesman Paul Browne said Saturday.
And how can citizens get this?
This would be a great tool for when getting mugged in the streets of New York City.
This is a very dangerous tool in the hands of an increasingly egocentric police force.
When an officer draws a pistol he knows he is going in front of a grand jury, a taser in his mind is like slapping handcuffs on a guy.
Policemen will be very quick to use the taser instead of communicating verbally, with joe citizen and while they may not be fatal for the most part. They cause tremendous pain 100% of the time and cause serious trauma injuries when the victim loses balance and hits the ground.
It’s about time. This will surely cut down on the amount of accidental deaths caused by police and the unrest it brings, especially when it’s a black male, which is usually the case.
The other poster is right, the police will most likely be quicker to use the stun gun, but I’d still take that over ppl being killed.
