New York City – Public school teachers complained to the state over having to hold classes in sweltering schools as the city sweated through four days of 90-plus temperatures, their union said Tuesday.

The United Federation of Teachers asked state labor officials to cite the city Department of Education with failing to protect students and teachers from “heat-related health hazards” in the schools.

“There are schools that were so, so hot that consideration could have been made to closing some of those schools,” UFT President Randi Weingarten said.

The temperature hit 96 degrees in Central Park on Tuesday, breaking the previous June 10 record of 95, set in 1974 and matched in 1984.

Forecasters said the humidity could make it feel like 105. The state issued an ozone advisory for unhealthy air for a second straight day.

The majority of the city’s 1,100 public school buildings are more than 20 years old and were built without air conditioning, though almost all have at least one air-conditioned classroom.

The UFT complaint was filed Monday after the union received numerous complaints from teachers in dozens of schools across the city, Weingarten said at a news conference.

She said the Department of Education should have issued guidelines for coping with the heat, such as moving students to low floors that are cooler.

I love the guy who has no compassion for the kids, nor for the teachers………..I love the argument that goes, “We suffered, let them suffer.”

So not Jewish. So not menschlich.

The teachers union has tons of money – let them buy air conditioners instead of buying democrcat politicians.

Oh sorry can’t tell such secrets.

To the guy (or gal) who thinks everyone who reads this is Jewish…………ARE YOU KIDDING?!?!?!

Maybe the person was teaching on Shavuos because they are permitted to! Or maybe, just maybe, they are not as religious as YOU. Can you handle that? Can you tolerate someone who is different? Who made you the Shavuos Police?
