Kiryas Joel, NY – Former Judge In High-Profile Satmar Dispute Case: At Trial Somone Sent Odd Messages To My Cell Phone

    24

Kiryas Joel, NY – Last week, former County Court Judge Stewart Rosenwasser, who returned to private law practice in 2006, confirmed an incident that he wasn’t able to discuss while he was a sitting judge. In 2005, someone apparently hacked into his cell phone while he was in the midst of deciding a ferocious dispute between Rabbi Aaron Teitelbaum, leader of a Kiryas Joel faction of Satmars, and Rabbi Zalman Teitelbaum, spiritual leader of the main Satmar synagogue in Brooklyn. They were quarreling about who should have access to a cemetery in Kiryas Joel.

Rosenwasser reported the hacking incident to the state Office of Court Administration. He also called lawyers who were involved in the case into his chambers for an off-the-record conference.

“Here’s the way it went: We got called into chambers, and nobody knew why until we were there,” said Bruce Dunn Sr., one of the lawyers who was there. “He related that he had received an odd message from his cell-phone carrier that led him to believe that someone was able to access his cell-phone records.

“He said that if there’s any reason anybody wanted him off the case, then he would recuse himself. If anybody thought he was prejudiced or partial, in any way, then he would recuse himself. Everyone said they didn’t want him off the case.”

The state Office of Court Administration doesn’t acknowledge internal complaints by judges. But in 2004, another judge, Brooklyn Supreme Court Melvin Barasch, spoke of a minefield of threats, unfounded allegations of corruption and anonymous rumors that awaited his every move in another case involving a civil dispute between Satmar factions.

Barasch said there ought to be an investigation.

Their family is why I live in Florida. I am a Chossid of the “Real” Satmar Ruv, ZY’U, and I was so disgusted by the behavior of this family, that I moved away. I did not wish to get involved at all. This is not the derech of Satmar to be devisive. And, especially all the nastiness. It is an embarrassment to us all. Some of my friends live in Monroe, but just outside of the KJ “village” so they don’t have to be controlled by Aron. Others in Willi followed others, avoiding Romney, just to not have to deal with the political insanities.

When people ask me that old question, “Vehmen’s Chussid bist di?” My answer now is, “Ich bin a Chussid fin der ershter Satmar Rov, R Yoilish, ZY’U. I bin yetst azoi vi der Breslovers, un a Rebbe.”

To Aron and Zalman Leib I say, “Children behave….” but… it will not be. One can learn a little more than the other, but has no midos. The other has more midois. What can I say.

I wish R Avruhom Leitner ZT”L had become the Rebbe and avoided this whole mess. (smile)

Thats right. this is going on everywhere, chasidim, litvaks, yeshivish. Satmar is the biggest, so it makes the most noise. Otherwise it is like they say, same garbage – different label.

    To Anno 12:57

What world did you really grow up in. Have you forgotten all the Rebbes and Chasidusin that suffered miserably from you so called Satmer Chassidim back in the days of Reb Yoel Zt”l?

What goes around comes around. We are all enjoying ourselves watching from the sidelines as you tear each other apart. You truly deserve each other.

to the person that wrote that this is why you moved to florida, full of BS you moved to florida because you wanted to move there, i come from a satmar family myself and we choose not to get involved in the politics either and we can still live here in good old NY, so find a diff. excuse why you moved to Florida.

Satmar had for a Rebbe the Divrei Yoel Ztz”l and nobody was able to compare to them with his greatness in Torah Avodah and Gamilas Chasodim BUT!!! therefore almost every chasidis suffered from them starting with Spinka-Krula before WWII and going on to Klausenborg, Skolya (when he lived in Willie) Boston, Bobov, Belz , Viznitz etc etc etc Ha! Ha! what ever goes around , comes around.

Enough is enough! Let’s get past the Satmar business already. Let them each lead their own following and we might actually achieve the ultimate goal of “sholom al yisroel b’karov”.
