The items were found at 142 CVS and 112 Rite Aid Pharmacies in New York. Many stores sold milk and eggs that had expired, and some sold medications that were more than a year past their expiration dates, Cuomo said.

Investigators for the Attorney General’s office were able to buy more than 600 expired products around the state. Cuomo said his office is preparing civil lawsuits against the chains.

Consumers should always look at the expiration date and stop blaming stores for this problem. Stores have their obligations and we, as consumers have to check and be more responsible when purchasing products.

Kosher supermarkets do the same shtick. Just do not buy expired items.

About three years ago the Nassau County DA accused some big drug stores of the same and took them to court. I do not know about the milk and eggs because these were drug stores, but the Nassau Supreme Court dismissed the charges. The Court said that consumers can read and no deception occurred. Change the law in Albany but those guys are the biggest do nothing politicians after the US Congress

I have 2 local pharmacies where I purchase my drugs etc. I never spotted an expired product, looks like they’re too small to risk with this stuff, the big boys like Rite Aid and CVS thought they’re big enough so they’ll get away with it.

Drugs are often placed in new containers without the expiration date. Consumers should not be responsible to check dates.

Selling expired food is against the law, regardless of whether the consumer can read dates by hiself and regardless of frum or large store. If this was a frum small store it would have been closed down for this.

Where are all the moral defenders screaming about this? Let’s call for a boycott!! Let Rabbi Levine write an article about whether its kosher to buy here!! If this were a jewish company I am sure the posts would be very different.
