Monsey, NY – Rabbi Yakov Horowitz Awarded As Outstanding Jewish Educator In North America

    22

Monsey, NY – The Covenant Foundation, a very well respected national Jewish organization that honors outstanding Jewish educators around the U.S. for their creative approaches to Jewish education in North America, has announced its 18th annual list of Covenant Award recipients—among them Rabbi Yakov Horowitz, Dean of Monsey’s Yeshiva Darchei Noam and an outstanding educator who touches issue after issue few in the frum community have the courage to address.

The prestigious Covenant Award bestows a prize of $36,000 to its recipient and an additional $5,000 to the recipient’s institution. Each winner embodies leadership and excellence within the field of Jewish education.

It is noteworthy that The Covenant Foundation is primarily a secular Jewish Foundation and the majority of its awardees are non-orthodox.

This is only the third Orthodox Mechanech to be chosen out of 48 awardees and the first chassidish person to have been selected. (The other 2 were Rabbis Berel Wein and Yaakov Bender)

VIN News has always supported Rabbi Horowitz and his trailblazing work, and congratulates this champion of Klal Yisroel for this most well-earned honor.

This honor to rabbi H is well deserved after we have heard so many people speak up after the article and the vos is nais editorial rebuttal to mishpocha magazine last month.

Boruch Hashem there are people like Rabbi Horowitz who do bring up issues that some people will not face. We have to confront certain issues in a responsible manner as does Rabbi Horowitz, Yasher Koach to him, keep up the good work. I am sure if there are others out there with a forum and would like to join Rabbi Horowitz he and we would be glad.

the fact that hw won does not make him head and shoulders above evreyone else kudos to all those rebbeim and teachers that are doing great work in their classrooms with out any fanfare.

Of course we thank our rebbaim and teachers for the great job they are doing, but they are being paid for this. Rabbi Horowitz, on the other hand, extends himself to many teens and their parents, and he is paid ZERO for this. He does this because he wants to make a difference in this world, and I am glad he is recognized for his efforts. This award is not to put down other mechanchim, but to give honor where honor is due.

And that the award is from a non Orthodox entity makes it even better. Rabbis Wein and Bender are deserving too.

Why are we so excited when a secular organization, whose goals neither of us share, extends us honors?

What that does mean to us?

Has our approach to education become so perverted that secular Jews now applaud it?

Is the established fact that Eisov Soine L’Yaakov no longer valid?

9:35am Wow 12 positive comments in a row

Why in the world would any decent person write

negative comments on a story like this ????

It’s only a few infarginers and bitter people

that would do so. I am disaponted that there

are ANY negative comments. It’s refreshing to

see positive news of any kind.

To Rabbi Horowitz Keep up the good work!

It’s unfortunate that when we see Rabbis in the (secular) news these days it’s too often for some

scandal or scheme or worse. This is a kiddush hashem.

What I think it means is that a frum organization such as Agudas Yisroel or Torah U Mesorah should award educators as well. Maybe they do already but don’t get the publicity as this organization does. I think it is beautiful that Rabbi Horowitz got this reward, and this news should not be tinted with any negativity.
