New York City – Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg is funneling another enormous set of ostensibly anonymous grants to hundreds of arts and social services groups through the Carnegie Corporation, spreading them over the next two years as he begins establishing his own philanthropic foundation.

The grants, announced on Thursday by the Carnegie Corporation, total more than $60 million for 542 organizations, from small neighborhood groups to some of the city’s most venerable cultural institutions.
Since 2002, Mr. Bloomberg has given away about $175 million to groups in the city through the Carnegie Corporation, technically anonymously. But it has always been an open secret that he was the source of the gifts, which this year range from $10,000 to $150,000. Although the mayor has steadily increased his overall giving over the years, the Carnegie grants are in the same range as those last year, which totaled more than $30 million for about 530 groups over one year.
The groups, many of them neighborhood arts and social services organizations, range from brand names like the Y.M.C.A. of Greater New York and the Cooper-Hewitt Museum to Batoto Yetu, an African dance center in Harlem, and Highbridge Voices, an after-school choir program in the Bronx.
did ever somebody got anything from him?
yes many did he doesnt need his name splashed like trump if he gives charity
until he became mayor he was one of the cheepest billonire’s now he’s one of the 10 bigest donors still nothin close to masor
to Anonymous: who is “masor”? Or are you saying Maaser?
which frum organizations have benefitted?
12:37 – “which frum organizations have benefitted?”
who cares? there are other charities besides “frum organizations”. Just because he is Jewish does not mean he HAS to give to “frum organizations”
probably only liberal, arts, planned parenthood, this kind of staff
he gives chabad
To support Torah one must have a “Zchus”. It’s obvious that Bloomberg just doesn’t have that zchus. His money will be wasted on Art, dance, etc… What a shame. Torah will go on without him.
The fact that Mayor Mike gives generously is a kiddush hashem, and shows that he does have a yiddish neshoma and the right values. The organizations that he chooses to donate to – hospitals, universities, and cultural institutions are a benefit to us too. We may be unable to spread our own funds that widely, but we do use these facilities.
(Personally, I’m proud to to say that I give lots more than Al Gore!)
“The organizations that he chooses to donate to – hospitals, universities, and cultural institutions are a benefit to us too. We may be unable to spread our own funds that widely, but we do use these facilities.”
Hospitals we do benefit the rest we have no use for. One definitly needs a zechus to support torah and he obviously does not have one.

If not for the universities, you wouldn’t have hospitals! Think about it……
Hey he gave alot of money to MDA & Haddasah Hospital in Israel.
Many universities have billion dollar trusts. Our Yeshivas/parents are struggling.
And African dance? Obviously he hasn’t learned about V’echi amechu kodem.
HE IS A TINOK SHENISHBA! p.s. there’s a saying: you catch more flies with a drop of honey, than with a gallon of gall.
If he would only donate to our major yeshivos
Yeshivas/parents are struggling because of the lack of unity in the frum community. If all yeshivas where to be paid by one community organization and not by the parents directly, the cost would be manageable for all. Think about that!
Notice how the “donations’ are spread out to the spectrum of 100’s of community and cultural groups. It seems that there is a plan to this of a payoff understanding for support in his election and “buying” future political office someone makes sure that it is known where the money is coming from. If he is Jewish he SHOULD be more sensitive to Jewish Organizations
with his system of fining the average hard working new yorker whats it all worth
