Brooklyn, NY – Ikea New Mega Store To Open With Splash Free Givaways

Brooklyn, NY – Ikea will give away thousands of dollars worth of gift cards and merchandise — including a sofa for each of the first 35 people in line — when it opens its store here June 18.

Ikea Brooklyn will be the Swedish company’s first store and restaurant in New York City, its fourth in the New York-New Jersey area, its 35th in the United States and its 281st worldwide.

The 346,000-square-foot store is on 22 acres along the Erie Basin waterfront in Red Hook, south of the BQE/Gowanus Expressway and southeast of the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel. The store will employ more than 500 people and will feature 10,000 exclusive items, a 450-seat Restaurant, 6.5 acres of waterfront esplanade, a supervised children’s play area, and approximately 1,400 parking spaces.

Customers can begin lining up at 9 a.m. Monday, June 16, in advance of the doors opening at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 18.

In addition to the sofas awarded to the first 35 adults, 18 or older, in line at the opening, the store will give away:

* Free Poang armchairs to the next 100 adults in line.
* Random prize envelopes, with gift cards ranging from $10 to $250, or vouchers to the first 2,500 adults to visit the store.
* $10 gift cards for anyone who can show proof at the store on June 18 that it is their birthday.
* Famnig heart-shaped cushions for the first 100 children (under 18) in line for the grand opening.

From June 18 through June 22, visitors to the store also may enter a drawing to win one of 10 $1,000 Ikea Gift Cards. The retailer also will donate $10,000 to Red Hook’s Conover House, a supportive housing program that provides a stable, nurturing environment for families in need.

Entertainment for kids such as balloon artists and face-painting will take place at Ikea Brooklyn from June 18 through June 22. Kids also can enjoy a macaroni-and-cheese meal with a fountain drink for 99¢.

On June 19 and June 20, the first 1,000 visitors each day will receive a three-inch tropical plant, representing Ikea roots planted in Brooklyn.
