It happened just before 8 p.m. Wednesday in Brooklyn during a passing thunder shower.
A fire department spokesman says the collapse involved a roughly 25-foot wide section of the facade.
All of the injuries were minor. It wasn’t immediately known who was hurt.
Department of Buildings inspectors are investigating.
There is no word on what caused the collapse.
Better before fireworks display
the reason it collapsed is because it has not been fixed properly. it was ”braced” with wood and probably used chewing gum. things need a real fix, especially regarding safety issues
can u imagine how many violations and fines i would get if its in my property, but the city gets away with anything!!
The Brooklyn Bridge is 131 years old, having been opened in 1883. There are only so many ways to repair and rehabilitate a structure that old. It was built for horses and wagons, and pedestrians. Later trolley lines were put on it, and still later elevated subway lines. The last elevated train was taken off the Bridge in 1952. Ever since then, its been tens of thousands of cars and trucks, day in and day out, year after year, decade after decade. That its still standing and in daily use is a tribute to its designers and the immigrants who built it.
Our great-grandfathers built it. Somehow even paying the taxes to maintain it is too difficult for us.
