Maskin’s family is demanding answers about the freak accident, but police say it will be weeks before they can shed light on the incident.

Maskin’s family said the fire and local police department have yet to contact them to explain what happened.

Her son Arvin – a lawyer in Manhattan – said the silence has made grieving difficult. “The result has been devastating to my father,” he said on the weekend. “My parents are inseparable, the whole family is devastated.”

Maskin said he’s ready to launch his own investigation into the death if police aren’t more forthcoming.

“We’re going to have to understand [what happened], and we will commit whatever resources necessary to get to the bottom of this,” he said.

Boisbriand police asked their provincial counterparts to take over the investigation, but the process will take weeks, said provincial police spokesman Marc Butz.

“We have to meet with all of the firefighters on the scene and all the witnesses, and after that, we have to analyze all the evidence,” he said. “Then we have to [draw] conclusions.”

“Maskin’s family is demanding answers about the freak accident”

The answer is it was a freak accident. First she tripped on the hose and fell face down on the ground. A couple seconds later the hose popped of the fire truck & struck her with such force she was killed on the spot. Had she been standing she would still be alive. It wasn’t near the fire it was a block away.

It was indeed a freak accident, The fire hose exploded off the pump! That’s what killed her! Whoever is in charge of maintinging these fire hydrants or securing them properly is at fault.

I really don’t understand- they know how she died. The only thing I can think is that the lawyer wants to know if there was any negligence on the part of the FD so he can sue! Instead of trying to cast blame, maybe people should learn from this to stay away from emergency scenes. Sometimes you even have to stay blocks away- especially if you see fire hoses on the ground. DO NOT drive or walk over hoses!

come on, show some compassion for this tragedy stricken family,

“a freak accident” meens an accident that Wasn’t supposed to happen, and doesn’t make any sense.

and that’s what they want to know, how did such a freaky thing happened.

that’s called closure, people find comfort in at least understanding what went wrong.

and u my friends, please show some more ahavas yisroel and compassion.

just because hashem wanted it does not mean we cant have closure. A little compassion means alot for someone who lost a loved one.

    I agree with Mendel,

everyone here would be talking different if it would have been a family members of theirs, everyone knows it was freaky, min hashamayim etc… but a person needs closure to go on with life, and they deserve it.

However, ‘closure’ and ‘blaming’ are two different things!
