“Trying to increase the fines from $90 to $115 is a clear example of the City using New Yorkers as a cash machine. New Yorkers are already burdened with an ever increasing cost of living, they do not need more reasons for traffic agents to hit them with fines,” Felder said.

Then let them not enter an intersection before making sure that they’ll have room to get out. It’s not so difficult. I’ve often wished that I could write tickets for drivers I see doing this.

I don’t mind them raising the price for entering an intersection, I do mind giving these traffic agents the power to give out these tickets.

    FELDER IS WRONG

Idiots who block the box deserve to be locked up.

A higher punishment nay be the best deterrent.

He’s only anoyed cuz he reopresents a district with some of the rudest drivers in the city.

Why is Felder for congestion pricing but against this? If times are hard he should be against both.

To the person who wrote the above dumb comment, may we ask you a simple question?

What does burdening have anything to do with DOING WHAT IS RIGHT?

Why do frum people think they can always do what they want when they want?

Just because you strugle does not give you a right to block the box, double park, steal , murder, cheat, cheat on taxes and whatever else you might do.

Obey laws and stop with the boro park attitude.

    Exactly.

I’ve see traffic agents many times give tickets to meters about to expire, who knows how they’ll extend the “box”. “Your front bumper was 2 inches over the white line… I don’t care if you moved up to let someone pull out of a spot…”

And if you accidentally let you car roll while receiving the ticket, you’ll be charged with a felony of try to harm a traffic agent.

    To ‘balehbuster’:

Either you are not a member of klal Yisroel or you are removing yourself from amongst the chosen people. You choose to write as if you are an outsider. In truth, there is no “Boro Park attitude;” there is a campaign by the city to use the law to “steal” money from hard-working people (Jew and gentile alike).

One of my sons got a ticket for no seat belt when he was wearing one.

I got a ticket for litter strewn at the curb (as did most of the other people on my block at some time during the last few months) when there was NO litter.

Fighting these tickets is an exercise in futility. Raising the cost of violations is indeed a hardship on already overburdened and overtaxed citizens. (G-d asks 10% ma’aser while the government takes far more.) Don’t be so self-righteous. We all make mistakes or misjudgments that can result in blocking the box (Years ago I got a ticket for this when my car was a few inches past the white line–) and often it does not result from aggression or a disregard for the law.

I don’t agree with Mr. Felder on every issue but here he gets my support. If you make $15 an hour (many of us make even less) before taxes are paid, do you think it is appropriate that we have to work a full day to pay for a moment’s oversight that does not harm anyone? Most instances of “blocking the box” do not involve obstructing traffic but only protruding into the intersection.

$90 is already too much to pay.

    To Milhouse, 3:28, and Balehbuster:

Chill. You want to write more tickets? Want to lock people up for blocking the box? Accuse the nation that follows much stricter guidelines of “doing what they want when they want”?

No one is perfect and we all need to work on ourselves but don’t make blanket accusations that make it seem that the few whose actions are appalling are representative of the klal.

If you actually think the way your messages indicate, thank heavens the three of you do not represent klal Yisroel. Learn to judge others favorably and Hashem should judge you favorably as well.

    Anon 5:38 is wrong

I am a very frum heimishe yid and i am appalled at the lack of courtesy and disgusting atitudes of our bretheren drivers in boro park, aka felder’s district.

His stance on these things is inconsistent and have no rhyme or reason other than pandering for votes.

I was almost killed twice last week by idiot drivers on 18th avenue in a span of 12 minutes. (and no its not because i am a bad or un alert walker)

people need to learn how to be courteous and obey the rules of the road. and when they block the box they are comitting SAKANAS NEFASHOS which is more important than theyre stupid 15 bucks. if they dont wanna pay it, stop being so rude. its alot easier.

From $90 to $115 is a $25 increase (not $15 as you wrote)–an increase of 28%. Is the sky the limit? Come back to a meter a minute late? Forget to move the car on time for alternate side parking?

Isn’t it enough that we work from January 1 to sometime in April or May exclusively for Uncle Sam (income taxes)? Then there are real estate taxes and water and sewer taxes. How much can the city charge for traffic violations? There has to be a limit.

Does a 28% hike seem fair?

    YES.

Do the crime, do the time. Learn never to do it again.

Its funny how everyone is getting so upset over this. Just DON’T DO IT and theres nothing to be upset about. no one is above the law or safety.

You guys are too much. When you opposed congestion pricing, you said instead that we should enforce traffic regulations such as double-parking and blocking the box more instead as an “alternative”. Now the City is proposing to do just that, are you are all whining! Why don’t you just face the facts — you want to be able drive anywhere, anyway you like, public safety, the environment and everything else be damned. Selfish, coddled, car-addicted hypocrites, that’s what you guys are.

I got a $115 ticket for standing by a fire hydrant. This was in Williamsburg, on Keap st. Appears after sunset, they can give you a ticket, even if you are inside the car.

Good shmiel. you deserve the punishment and the city can use the cash to go to the lawsuit they would get not responding the the fire fast enough next time cuz some selfish person “stood” in front of the hydrant.

Do you understand what kind of sakanas nefashos that is???

why ? if he is in the car then why should he receive a ticket if he can just drive away, Simcha were asking you to make a stop on all stupid things that people are being targeted and ticketed

“Simcha were asking you to make a stop on all stupid things that people are being targeted and ticketed”

Why then cant people just stop being stupid and doing stupid things that get them ticketed in the first place?

The fire engine doesnt have have 10 seconds to wait for the chunyuk to start up his car and move it – those 10 seconds can mean someone’s LIFE.

Don’t be so selfish. Its against the torah AND daas torah.

From sunset to sunrise it’s illegal to stand by a fire hydrant in Nyc.

To 6:15 – Sakanos nefashos? I am by the wheel, with engine running, if I hear sirens, it takes me seconds to move on.

seconds is all it takes for fire to spread.

seconds is all it takes for fire to burn.

seconds is all it takes for a fatal breath of a smoke.

Don’t ever park in front of a hydrant even if you are sitting there even with the engine running.

Why is no one pointing out the fact that if the ticket goes to $115, it won’t be +2 points on your license? I think that’s worth a whole lot more than $25 considering how much your insurance goes up.

how about the reasons for it in the first place? does anyone care about that? what happened to our most benevolent community with our civic minded atitudes? we care more about 25 bux and 2 points than following laws that proitect people and save lives????

If they don’t need reasons for the city to hit them with fines Mr felder then here is a nifty idea: Tell your constituents not to block the box / break the law! wow isnt that a much better use of your breath than to rail against a sound deterrent to breaking a law that goes to quality of life issues? or are you just pandering to constituents who arent the most courteous of drivers?
